Dundee United vs Aberdeen - Dundee United to win
Dundee United have been going through a transitional phase so far this season. Jim Goodwin has completely changed how his side are playing and is attempting to make them a side that builds out from the back more.
They have also been more aggressive in the press and positive when on the ball compared to other seasons and they’ve hit a decent run of form recently. They’re unbeaten since being humbled 4-0 by Motherwell.
They immediately bounced back with a very impressive 3-0 away win over St. Mirren and followed that up with a 1-0 win against Hibs at Tannadice. Last week they drew away at St. Johnstone which, given their start to the season doesn’t seem like a bad result.
Aberdeen threatened to turn the corner after beating Motherwell 4-0 at Fir Park only to follow that up with a draw at Easter Road and a home defeat against St. Johnstone. They did beat St. Mirren 3-1 at Pittodrie last week but the scoreline didn’t really reflect their performance.
Travelling to Tannadice is always tough but this is a Dundee United side with a bit of confidence and swagger these days. They have players all over the pitch that can have an impact in the final third and their midfield three on current form is one of the best in the league.
Lyall Cameron has been excellent in recent weeks, as has Zidane Iqbal and Dylan Tait, I expect them to control the game and create plenty. Aberdeen’s win last week was papering over the cracks for me whereas Dundee United are on an upward trajectory.
Home win in this one for me.
Falkirk vs Kilmarnock - Both teams to score
Falkirk have had a tough start and will feel that their performances haven’t always been reflected in their results. They have won two of their last five matches, at home to Hearts and away to Hibs, two difficult fixtures even with Hibs terrible form recently.
They also picked up draws against Dundee United and St. Johnstone but lost at home to Dundee a couple of weeks ago. Jacob Murrell missed a couple of cracking chances against Rangers in the 2-1 home defeat but since then has scored four goals in five matches.
They have had some issues with injuries but with some attacking players coming back, they could feel more confident in getting a result.
Kilmarnock, like Falkirk, will probably feel that their performances haven’t always matched the results but their results have improved in the last five. They won 1-0 at Easter Road and beat Motherwell 3-2 at Rugby Park last week.
They almost beat Hearts who equalised late before the international break and then put in a really impressive second half performance at Ibrox in a 3-1 defeat. Killie, like last season, look good going forward but have really been struggling defensively, having conceded TWENTY goals already!
Both sides looking better going forward then defensively which leads me to believe that neither will be able to keep the other out. This could be a good game.
Partick Thistle vs Stenhousemuir - Both teams to score
Stenhousemuir sit top of the Championship currently, one point ahead of Partick Thistle but with a game in hand. This is a meet up of the best two defensive teams in the league who both currently sit on +8 goal difference, which is only behind Raith Rovers on +9.
Partick Thistle as heavy favourites in this one and everyone keeps waiting for the wheels to fall off for Marvin Bartley and Stenny which many thought the defeat against Inverness would trigger. However, they fought to a 1-1 draw with high flying Raith after that, which is a strong result and they still sit top with a game in hand over Mark Wilson’s side.
The Jags could have gone top midweek but they could only manage a 1-1 draw with Dunfermline at East End Park which could give Stenny a boost. Thistle started slowly with a few draws but won three in a row before the aforementioned midweek draw. A 3-0 and 1-0 against Arbroath and Ayr respectively were at either side of a solid 2-1 away win against
Livingston.
This will be a tough and tense game that I could see ending 1-1.
Queen’s Park vs Dunfermline - Dunfermline to win
I’m surprised at these odds, Dunfermline have been well off what they expected to be and are another team that will feel their performances don’t match the results. Queen’s Park got a surprise win against Inverness for only their second win of the season but lost 2-0 to Morton last week to go back to the bottom of the table.
Dunfermline drew with Partick Thistle midweek for their third draw in a row having won the previous two. They have a much stronger squad and even away from home, I fancy them heavily in this one.
They need to start scoring more goals and then the wins should come and I imagine that beginning on Saturday.
Cove Rangers vs East Kilbride - East Kilbride to win
Cove Rangers are bottom of the table and haven’t won any of their last five. East Kilbride are unbeaten in their last five, they’ve drawn the last two but won the previous three before that. Mick Kennedy’s side sit third in the table behind runaway leaders Hamilton and Ross County.
I can’t see anything other than an away win in this match, Cove struggle to score and they also struggle to keep goals out. East Kilbride will be looking to do everything they can to stop the top two pulling further away and they also need to work on their goal difference being +15 behind Hamilton and +27 behind Ross County!
Cove have lost seven, drawn three and won once this season, I don’t see this one adding to the positive results.
