The long wait is finally over, and the World Cup is up and running for us to get our teeth into. One of the most exciting parts of a World Cup is seeing the host nation turning up for their first game of the competition.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, we will see the United States host Paraguay in what should be an entertaining affair. Both will want to get off to a good start and get points on the board in a group that both will feel they can qualify from.

Here are our top three World Cup betting tips and the best free bets ahead of Saturday morning’s clash at SoFi Stadium.
Tip 1: USA to win and both teams to score @ 7/2 (Paddy Power)
It is always a big moment when the host nation starts their World Cup campaign, and the crowd will be buzzing in California for the USA team. They have only played International Friendlies over the last year, but they have had some good results.
Wins against Japan, Uruguay and Senegal have been impressive and shows that they can get results against good teams. They have some Premier League stars in Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson who will be hoping to make an impact.
Now they must face a Paraguay side who had some big wins in their qualifying campaign. Home wins against Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay show that they have the potential to do well in this group.
They had a good win last week in their warmup game against lowly Nicaragua with a comfortable 4-0 win. People will remember Miguel Almiron who played for Newcastle a couple of years ago, along with current and former Brighton midfielders Diego Gomez and Julio Enciso.
Expect the USA team to show their class and beat Paraguay but for it not to go all their own way.
Tip 2: Diego Gomez to be shown a card @ 23/10 (Paddy Power)
Diego Gomez was great bet to be shown a card during the Premier League season when he was playing for Brighton. He committed 48 fouls in the 26 games that he played in and saw nine yellow cards.
He only started in three International Friendlies this year, but he also managed to see one more card in them games. With the USA likely to be the more attacking team it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pick up another card here.
Tip 3: Christian Pulisic 1+ shot on target, Folarin Balogun to score anytime, Diego Gomez to be shown a card
Christian Pulisic is the captain of the USA men’s national team and has been a huge figure in American soccer. Although he is now 32, he still has the quality to do well and a shot on target is likely to happen.
Folarin Balogun is the main centre forward for the USA and should get some opportunities in this game. He has scored three goals in the last six games for the national team, and he scored five times in the Champions League for Monaco last season.
Finally add Diego Gomez to be shown a card anytime. The Brighton player was booked nine times last season for them, and he could easily pick up another one here.
