13 more points is all Coventry City need from their final seven games to end a 25-year hiatus from the Premier League as they get set to host fellow promotion hopefuls Derby County on Friday.

A run of seven wins from eight games before the international break has left the Sky Blues sitting pretty at the top of the Championship, nine points ahead of Middlesbrough in second and 11 clear of the play-off places.

It appears to be a matter of when, not if, Frank Lampard’s men will secure promotion and betting sites make them strong favourites to secure their 25th win of the season on Good Friday.

Derby’s last top-flight game was 18 years ago but they can sniff the Premier League once more, entering the Easter weekend just three points off a play-off place.

With sixth-place Southampton not in action on Friday, they could go level on points with the Saints with a win at Coventry, which they achieved last season.

Coventry vs Derby Tips

We’ve picked out three betting tips for the late kick-off on Good Friday at the CBS Arena.

Tip 1: Coventry to win & BTTS

The international break came at the wrong time for Coventry, who were flying, and they are a best-price of 1/8 on football betting sites to win the Championship title after powering clear at the top of the table.

The expectation is they will pick up where they left off in the 3-0 win over Swansea and their form at home this season is excellent with 14 wins from 19 games.

They are averaging just over two goals per game at the CBS Arena and could welcome back top scorer Haji Wright after he missed the win in south Wales.

The Sky Blues won the reverse fixture 5-3, although Derby’s squad has been massively overhauled since that encounter in mid-August.

John Eustace has worked wonders to get Derby into the Championship play-off race and they’ve won four of their last five games. However, those victories came against teams Derby would be expected to beat, while their record against the division’s better teams is patchy.

The other concern for the Rams is a potentially lengthy list of absentees with Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, Danny Batth, Sammie Szmodics and Rhian Brewster likely to sit out this game through injury, while Ben Brereton Diaz and top scorer Patrick Agyemang have only recently returned from international duty.

It leaves Derby a little bit light for arguably the hardest away trip in the division and Coventry should be able to take another step towards promotion.

Pairing a home win up with both teams to score could prove the best option. The Rams have only failed to score in a division-best four of their 39 games and Coventry have managed seven home clean sheets this season.

Tip 2: Tatsuhiro Sakamoto over 0.5 shots on target

Lampard has a few selection decisions to make in attack with Wright back in the reckoning, Brandon Thomas-Asante a minor doubt and Ephron Mason-Clark having been on international duty with Jamaica.

One player who does look very likely to feature is the in-form Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, who didn’t go away during the international window.

The Japanese attacker has three goals in his last four games for the Sky Blues, and yet he’s a little way down the market when it comes to goalscorers and shots.

He’s better than even money to have at least one shot on target against Derby, a bet that’s landed in four of his last six appearances and in each of Coventry’s last three home games.

Tip 3: Over 1.5 Coventry goals, Frank Onyeka to be shown a card & Bobby Clark over 0.5 fouls won

Derby haven’t conceded more than two in a game since a 4-2 defeat at Hull City five games ago but you fear for them here given Coventry’s momentum.

The Sky Blues have found ways through better defences than Derby and can continue a run of scoring two or more that covers seven of the last eight games.

The midfield battle is worth a closer look too with Frank Onyeka an interesting option to be carded. The Nigerian has been cautioned twice in eight appearances for Coventry since joining from Brentford and conceded five fouls against Swansea.

Bobby Clark could be on the receiving end of some of those Onyeka misdemeanours. Clark is one of those most likely to start for the injury-hit Rams and while he’s conceded 10 more fouls than he’s won this season, he’s recently earned his side at least one freekick in three of his last four appearances.
