It may look like curtains for the Reds in terms of their title aspirations, but Arne Slot’s men will be ready to pick themselves off the canvas from their Manchester City humiliation against a Forest side who stormed past Leeds 3-1 in their last Premier League outing.

Tip 1: Liverpool to win & under 2.5 goals
Far removed from the juggernaut of last term, Liverpool’s title defence has folded spectacularly.
Eight points adrift of Arsenal in eighth spot, the Reds have been defensively susceptible. Going into Matchday 12, Liverpool have suffered the most defeats at this stage of the campaign as reigning champions since Leicester in 2016/17 (also five).
They’ve been highly unpredictable, exploding into life on occasions, but they’ve also been subdued. Forest, however, who are trapped in the relegation zone, have shown promising signs of rediscovering themselves since Sean Dyche assumed the hotseat.
Forest looked more energetic against Leeds, and they are getting back into the mindset of quick transitions. Intriguingly, clashes with Liverpool have seen the Under 2.5 goals line fulfilled in the past three meetings.
Liverpool may have won one of these meetings, and yes, they did lose 1-0 in the corresponding fixture on Merseyside last term. Although disjointed at times, I fancy Liverpool to eke out a win and Under 2.5 goals across the 90 minutes represents decent value.
Tip 2: Liverpool over 7.5 shots on target
Against City, Liverpool barely had a sniff, and there was a gulf in class between the two sides. Indeed, Liverpool didn’t register an attempt on target in the first half, only the seventh time in 74 competitive games that has happened under Slot.
More encouragingly, Liverpool rank third for most shots taken this term (120), and Forest could come under siege.
Across the past two meetings, Liverpool have averaged over six shots on target. If they are at their sparkling best, Forest could be in for a tough day, and I can’t overlook this special.
Tip 3: Hugo Ekitike to score anytime, Over 4.5 Nottingham Forest saves, Cody Gakpo 2+ shots on target
Hugo Ekitike may have been hooked after 56 minutes against City, but he’s generally caught the eye. He’s scored three times in the league this term, and he’s looked sharp, so he could add to his tally this weekend.
To go alongside my earlier tip, the Forest goalkeeper could be in for a busy afternoon. Forest have an expected goals against (XGA) of 8.35, which is disconcerting, and Liverpool could pepper their goal.
Cody Gakpo is often electrifying, making things happen. Although he spurned a sitter against City, that won’t unsettle him. Over 1.5 shots on target for Gakpo doesn’t seem too ambitious.
