Racing Blogger’s Saturday Football Treble
I’ve got three tips for Saturday, covering the Premier League and Championship, so let's hope we can do some damage at the betting sites.
Tip 1: Ipswich to beat Preston
I’m keeping this weekend’s treble in England, built around teams whose recent form stacks up strongly.
In the Championship, two sides stand out over the last few weeks – Middlesbrough and Ipswich – both of whom are applying real pressure at the top as Coventry’s lead continues to shrink.
Ipswich are beginning to look like the side many expected at the start of the season. After what felt like a brief hangover following relegation from the Premier League, they’re now playing with confidence and momentum.
They remain firmly in the automatic promotion hunt, and I’d be surprised if they aren’t back in the top flight next season. Against Preston, they look a solid inclusion in the treble.
Tip 2 - Middlesbrough to beat Norwich
Middlesbrough have been particularly impressive at home since Kim Hellberg took over.
They’ve won their last two matches 4–0 against Southampton and Preston, two decent yardsticks at this level, and the performances have matched the scorelines.
Norwich arrive in decent form themselves, but I don’t think their underlying numbers fully justify the results they’ve been getting. At the Riverside, Boro look capable of winning well.
Tip 3 - Brighton to beat Everton
The final leg comes in the Premier League, where Brighton are always a tough proposition at the Amex. They dominate possession, control games well on home turf, and tend to wear teams down.
Everton travel south missing Jack Grealish, who looks set for a spell on the sidelines, and they don’t quite carry the same threat without him. Brighton should have enough.
