Scotland vs Denmark Bet Builder, Tips & Latest Odds
Kai Watson
It's winner-takes-all in Glasgow this evening as Scotland host Denmark, with Steve Clarke's side knowing that victory will see them head to next summer's World Cup.
And our Scottish football expert Kai Watson has his latest tips ahead of kick-off at Hampden tonight.
Scotland vs Denmark Tips
On Saturday evening Scotland were 2-0 down when Belarus equalised in Copenhagen then one minute later it was 3-0 to Greece. Just two minutes after that though, to the shock of pretty much the full of Europe, Belarus scored again and were 2-1 up.
This gave Scotland hope that had disappeared after a thoroughly disappointing first hour of the match. Maybe the news filtered onto the pitch or maybe it was coincidence but Belarus taking the lead coincided with Scotland improving and getting back into the game, on 65 minutes it was 3-1 thanks to Ben Gannon-Doak then five minutes later Ryan Christie made it 3-2.
Over in Denmark though, with eleven minutes to go Gustav Isaksen made it 2-2 whilst Scotland still trailed by a goal and were passing up guilt edged opportunities. Both games had intense and nervous endings but the scorelines remained 3-2 Greece and 2-2 between Denmark and Belarus.
The Belarussianโs did Scotland a massive favour because it looked like Steve Clarkeโs side were destined for the Play-Off spot but thereโs still a chance that they can qualify automatically, it now comes down to a shoot-out between them and Denmark at Hampden on Tuesday evening.
Here are three predictionsย for tonight's massive game in Glasgow from Free Bets.
Tip 1: Scotland to score in the first half
With the Hampden roar and the Flower of Scotland behind them I think Scotland will come out and play like they did towards the end of the match against Greece. Denmark can sit back and accept the draw for automatic qualification but Scotland need the win.
In my opinion, this means that they need to be aggressive from the off and go at Denmark who I didnโt think looked overly impressive in the reverse fixture. The fact they also conceded two to Belarus at home shows they arenโt brilliant defensively.
With everything that is on the line, Scotland getting the first goal would settle the nerves and get the crowd going, which would make it hard for Denmark to get back into it.
Tip 2: Scotland over 3.5 shots on target
As previously mentioned, I wasnโt overly impressed by Denmark in the reverse fixture and Saturday night showed their defensive fragility. Scotland had five shots on target in a much improved second half performance in Piraeus so I think this bet is great value for money over 90 minutes.
Scotland have had six shots on target in the last two matches and had three in the home match against Greece. With how improved that attacking performance was in the second half on Saturday evening and with what is at stake, I really think this bet is a no-brainer.
Tip 3: Scott McTominay to score or assist, over 1.5 goals in the match & Pierre Hojbjerg to be booked
Scott McTominay loves playing at Hampden and in recent times has been the man to turn up for Scotland when they most need him. Heโs good odds on a goal anytime at 10/3 but think a goal or assist is a safer bet and I expect him to see more of the ball compared to what he saw on Saturday.
The fact that Scotland need a win makes me think that this wonโt be a 0-0 affair as the home side need to attack and try and score AT LEAST once. Denmark have enough fire power to get a goal so donโt feel that over 1.5 is a lot to ask.
Hojbjerg being the captain is often the one that needs to make those โcleverโ fouls to slow the game down and heโs intelligent enough to do that throughout. Heโs been booked twice in four appearances in these qualifiers including one in the reverse fixture.
He will want to stop Scotland playing and sometimes the only way of doing that is to foul your opponent!
