Scotland vs Ivory Coast Betting Tips, Predictions & Odds

A section of Scotland fans have been regularly booing performances in recent times, despite automatically qualifying for the World Cup and Saturday against Japan was no different. It stems from, even in home matches, Steve Clarke’s side looked very defensive from the start of the game and massively lacked any creativity going forward.
Some fans are incredibly happy with the manager and delighted at qualifying for three of the last four major tournaments but some fans want more. There have been some heroic performances and results but a section of fans can’t look past the performance in the last two Euros and results like the 3-0 hammering against Greece at Hampden.
So often Scotland look devoid of ideas in attacking areas and the squad has lacked pace, outside of Ben Gannon Doak for a while now. Someone like Findlay Curtis could change that but he only got ten minutes on the pitch and Scotland only managed eight shots to Japan’s eighteen.
This included one big chance created for the home side and Japan created three, missing two and scoring one in the 1-0 victory. The Tartan Army will be expecting a lot more from Scotland against Ivory Coast and will be wanting to see some of the faces they didn’t see much of, or at all on Saturday.
Scotland vs Ivory Coast Tips
Here are our top three betting tips and the best free bets ahead of Tuesday's game in Liverpool.
Tip 1: Ivory Coast over 1.5 goals
For all the complaints about Scotland being too defensive, it really hasn’t helped them much defensively in recent matches. In fact, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in the last five matches;
Scotland 0-1 Japan
Scotland 4-2 Denmark
Greece 3-2 Scotland
Scotland 2-1 Belarus
Scotland 3-1 Greece
Those are listed most recent first so there’s some distance between the matches but that doesn’t excuse the frailty defensively. Ivory Coast have scored at least two goals in their last four;
South Korea 0-4 Ivory Coast
Egypt 3-2 Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast 3-0 Burkina Faso
Gabon 2-3 Ivory Coast
Before that they drew 1-1 with Cameroon but they have plenty of talent going forward, their front three of Simon Adingra, Martial Godo and Evann Guessand all scored in the last match versus South Korea. They have plenty of pace, something which Scotland lack, and Adingra and Godo are in decent form domestically also.
If their forward players play the way they can, they’re capable of scoring a few goals against this Scotland side.
Tip 2: Martial Godo to score or assist
Godo signed for Strasbourg from Fulham in the summer and the 23-year-old winger has 7G/1A in 14 starts (22 appearances - 1,180 minutes) and also got a goal and assist against South Korea on Saturday.
He’s small but can go inside or outside from the left and has scored all types of goals this season. He attacks the back post brilliantly and can cut in to get shots away whilst also being capable of going on the outside and creating.
Whoever starts at right back for Scotland will struggle to stop him, in total for Strasbourg this season he’s got 13G/4A but since January has really come into his own and helped progress to the Europa League Quarter-Final recently.
He’s a player on the rise and one Scotland will need to stop to get a positive result.
