A cracking day's racing, but there is, arguably, too much to keep on top of.

I have concentrated on York and Chester, but I fancy a couple more at Sandown and Market Rasen, and I could have easily doubled the number of recommendations!

5:18pm York - Beach Point (Each-Way)

Conditions were described as good to firm at York on Thursday morning, but there was plenty of rain forecast for later in the day, and I would imagine the ground will be no better than good for today's card, although that should be the last we see of the rain for now.

Duke Of Liberation won the corresponding race 12 months ago from a 1lb higher mark, and he ran his best race for some time when third at Beverley last time. He was drawn in stall two last year, but is drawn out wide in stall twenty this afternoon. Warren Fentiman claimed 5lbs in 2025 and is down to 3lbs today; he will do well to get the seven-year-old competitive from such a difficult draw.

I thought Oisin Murphy gave BEACH POINT (Each-Way) a moderate ride at Newmarket last time, and the hope is that there is a bit of ease in the ground for William Knight's five-year-old. The selection is just 1lb higher than when scoring at Sandown on soft ground back in August. Well drawn in stall six, Marco Ghiani takes over in the plate, and he gets the each way vote.

Glistening Knights, who would not want too much rain on Thursday, is considered the chief threat over top-weight Say What You See, who carries a 5lbs penalty for his Pontefract win in a poor four-runner event midweek.

Recommendation: Beach Point (Each-Way) - 11/1 with bet365 (5 places)

2:37pm Chester - Morbeh

There is the likelihood of good to soft ground at Chester, but conditions won't be as bad as they were at Epsom on Saturday when Silver State finished runner-up on what was heavy ground. The handicapper has seen fit to raise Jack Channon's three-year-old 5lbs for what was his first start at this 10f trip, but he can race from his old mark this afternoon.

Well drawn in stall two, he is the one to beat, but I don't know how many of the nine runners coped with the underfoot conditions. The hope is that the layers make him short in the betting, given he is 5lbs "well-in."

I backed Hope Hero here on his seasonal reappearance, and he is held by Silver State on a line through the winner Folk Pageant, but he raced near the chewed up far rail in the home straight while the action unfolded down the centre of the track. He looks sure to improve for the run.

The vote, however, goes to the progressive MORBEH, a winner at Windsor over just shy of 12f last time. He was raised 4lbs for that fluent success, but goes up another 2lbs from tomorrow after the wins of the second and third in the interim period.

This drop back in distance is less than ideal, and Roger Varian's gelded son of Dubai would not want soft ground – last of ten on sole start under such conditions – but we should only be talking about good to soft on the Roodeye, and he ran well at Doncaster on similar ground on his seasonal reappearance.

In an ideal world, I would prefer better ground and a longer trip, but Cieren Fallon will be aware of his mount's stamina reserves and could go forward from stall four if there is not enough early pace.

Recommendation: Morbeh - 7/2 with bet365

3:12pm Chester - Crazee Icon

I went into this season thinking CRAZEE ICON was a very well handicapped filly, and I must give her another chance despite the fact that she is 2lbs higher than when running poorly over a mile at Newmarket last time in a first-time hood.

The aid left off this afternoon, but she has the worst of the draw to overcome in stall nine of nine. She ran a terrific race over 7f here back in September on good to soft, and the additional half-furlong will suit.

Runswick travelled well for a long way when third over an extended mile at Nottingham, and he is entitled to come on for the run. He may not get a soft lead with handicap and turf debutant Showcasing Star in the field, and the hope is that there is plenty of pace to suit the closers.

They tend to shun the far rail at this time of the season at Chester, and this draw may not be the coffin box it would look at the May meeting. I appreciate the filly is something of a cliff horse of mine, but she, too, was not given the best of rides by Murphy last time, and I do think this track and trip will suit. Her draw will mean she is at a higher price than she should be, although I promise this is the last chance saloon.

Recommendation: Crazee Icon - 7/2 with bet365

8:36pm Market Rasen - Estacas (Nap)

ESTACAS (Nap) has been raised 3lbs for finishing second at 12/1 – nibbled at in the market from 16s – to Dan Skelton's Ice Jet at Worcester last month on what was just his second start for the yard and second run since returning from an 874-day lay-off.

The nine-year-old had Kylenoe Dancer a length-and-a-quarter back in third, and the latter ran a terrific race when runner-up at Fontwell from a 1lb higher mark midweek. The Jamie Insole/Dr Richard Newland-trained selection has won from a 6lbs higher mark in the past and beat none other than the Cheltenham Festival winner, the ill-fated Chianti Classico, when winning an Ascot Bumper on racecourse debut. That was on soft ground, and any ease in the ground would be fine.

He remains lightly raced for a nine-year-old and goes on all ground. Luke Scott, who claimed 3lbs last time, has no allowance this evening in this conditional jockeys' contest, and this is a hot race with Olly Murphy's Little Legend and recent 2m course winner Bunker Bay in opposition.

That said, I thought Estecas looked like a sure-fire future winner last time and hope he has too much pace over the last couple of flights for this field.

Recommendation: Estacas (Nap) - 7/2 with bet365
