Charlie McCann’s Horse Racing Tips For Sunday, 14 June - Doncaster & Salisbury
Charlie heads to Salisbury on Sunday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.com.
2:00pm Doncaster - Optician
Tiger and Holly Mist are likely to head the market for the 12f handicap, but I am going to take a chance on OPTICIAN in the 12f apprentice handicap despite the fact that the six-year-old – a five-time all-weather winner – is 0-15 on turf.
The selection ran a terrific race returning from a 200-day absence at Southwell back in April and was posted wide throughout when making no show at Thirsk last time from a 2lbs higher mark. That was a much better race than today's, and he did meet trouble in running two furlongs from home, although it would be wrong to say it only cost him a length or two.x
He has finished in the frame in four of those fifteen starts on turf when trained by Tim Easterby, but the stable of Michael Herrington have had three winners in the last couple of weeks. Conor Whiteley was in the saddle for one of those successes, and he takes off a valuable 3lbs this afternoon.
It could easily be that the gelding is just having a "sighter" for a switch back to the all-weather, and he is beginning to look well handicapped, but I am prepared to take a chance on him to finally break his maiden tag on grass.
Recommendation: Optician - 5/1 with bet365
4:22pm Salisbury - King’s Castle (Nap)
I watched on in horror as 25/1 Primo Lara (not a penny on the cliff horse) cantered to the front in his first time blinkers at Nottingham last time, only to be caught in the shadows of the post. That was the five-year-old's best run since he went into my notebook when dotting up on the Knavesmire over two years ago.
The winner, who was an eighteen-race maiden, has since been beaten 3l from a 5lbs higher mark and, despite the fact that the third was almost three lengths further back, I do think a 4lbs rise for Promo Lara is unfair. I will feel vindicated if he belatedly returns to winning ways, but he must give plenty of weight to Mighty Quiet and KING'S CASTLE (Nap) with marginal preference for the latter.
Mighty Quiet has been below par in two starts so far this term, but didn't get home over 12f on soft ground – not good to soft as per official description – and the return to ten furlongs will suit. Harry Charlton's five-year-old is only 1lb higher than when scoring at Windsor on good ground last season, and Millie Wonnacott could easily get an uncontested lead from her good draw in stall four.
King's Castle was beaten three-quarters of a length, returning from a seven-month lay-off, at Lingfield over 12f last time. The winner has since followed up from a 4lbs higher mark, yet King's Castle has been left on the same mark. I wonder what connections of Promo Lara think of that.
King's Castle is a nine-year-old, but he travelled extremely well at Lingfield, and I am not concerned with the drop back in distance. The hope is that Mighty Quiet and/or Suhub ensure it becomes a decent test of stamina, and the selection is just 1lb higher than when winning at Sandown back in July. Taryn Langley was in the plate for both his successes in 2025, and the selection is entitled to strip fitter for his reappearance.
Recommendation: King's Castle (Nap) - 5/1 with bet365
