Charlie McCann’s Horse Racing Tips For Thursday, 2 July - Perth, Newbury & Kempton
Charlie heads to Kempton on Thursday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
2:18pm Perth - Liberty Coach
Harry Cobden takes over on LIBERTY COACH for the first time, and the selection has had a break since getting his hurdling career back on track with a third at Sedgefield back in March. The five-year-old is rated eighty-nine on the flat and attracted my attention when third to Minstrel Knight despite never being placed to challenge at Wetherby over Christmas.
Rated eighty-nine on the level, he represents the stable of John and Sean Quinn, who have had a couple of winners on the level in recent weeks. While Harry Skelton and Sean Bowen fire in the winners, Cobden has been quiet - one winner from just eleven rides in the last fortnight – with JP McManus-owned runners thin on the ground. He will be looking forward to Galway at the end of the month to kickstart his new job.
The four-year-old Try Them is the highest-rated in the field and receives 4lbs from his elders. This Irish import – formerly with Emmet Mullins - had bits of form in Ireland that command respect, and has his first start for Patrick Neville. A check of the market is advised, with Brian Hughes taking the ride.
It may just be me, but I do sense that Hughes is no longer stable jockey for Donald McCain, who does seem to be favouring Theo Gillard and the Maggs twins. It may only be while the former champion jockey returns to his best post after his long-term injury, but I'm not convinced he has the backing of all the yard's owners.
Recommendation: Liberty Coach - 7/2 with bet365
6:15pm Newbury - Fanciulla Del West
Ablon is bred to appreciate the return to 10f despite having won a Novice at Kempton over 7f last time. The filly showed little on her sole previous start on turf, but that was on heavy ground, and she certainly didn't stay ten furlongs on that occasion. This better ground will suit.
I backed Home Hero at Chester on his belated seasonal debut and, although he finished a good third, he never struck me as a winner-in-waiting. He subsequently disappointed back on the Roodeye but should appreciate the better ground this evening for inform Hugo Palmer.
The vote, however, goes to the filly FANCIULLA DEL WEST, who has been raised 3lbs for finishing second on handicap debut – well backed – at Redcar, beaten a length with the pair clear. The winner has not seen the track since, although the third has done nothing for the form.
The filly is a half-sister to no fewer than thirteen winners, and her powerful connections will be keen to get a win next to her name for the breeding sheds. After just four career starts, she is open to further improvement, Kieran Shoemark takes over in the saddle for the first time, and she can go one better than her two previous runs on grass – failed to stay 12f on her previous outing on turf.
Recommendation: Fanciulla Del West - 3/1 with bet365
6:33pm Kempton - Grizedale (Each-Way) (Nap)
I recommended supporting GRIZEDALE (Each-Way) (Nap) at York in an ultra-competitive handicap last month, and he was backed off the boards into 3/1 market leader. He missed the break but was too keen and rushed up the inside from his plum draw in three. He had no chance of getting home over that 1m1f trip, but will appreciate the drop back to a mile.
The selection's all-weather record reads 2-1-2, with the success coming over course and distance when getting up close home under Oisin Murphy. He has, surprisingly, been dropped 3lbs since York and is, somehow, 6lbs lower than when third in a 0-90 Classified event at Ascot on soft ground in October despite having only raced twice since.
Zac Lloyd was in the plate on the Knavesmire, and then Aussie has returned home since Royal Ascot, and, with Oisin Murphy out of action till Friday, Ray Dawson takes over in the saddle for the first time for Daniel and Clare Kubler.
There are many dangers, but I really do believe that Grizedale is (much) better than his current mark. He has a good draw in stall six, and I hope there are no excuses.
Recommendation: Grizedale (Each-Way) (Nap) - 17/2 with bet365 (3 places)

Horse racing has long been Charlie's passion - ironic, really, as he'll never pass the vet again, as sports injuries have come back to bite - with a specialism in handicap chases over jumps and 1m+ handicaps on the level.
