Charlie McCann’s Horse Racing Tips For Tuesday, 30 June - Musselburgh & Salisbury
Charlie heads to Stratford on Monday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
2:00pm Musselburgh - Mayor Of Maghera (Each-Way) (Nap)
Perfidia escapes a penalty for making all in an apprentice hands and heels race under Jake Dickson over a mile at Nottingham last week, and it would be no surprise to see him adopt similar tactics this afternoon. He was drawn in stall one at Colwick Park on Thursday and has again been fortunate with the draw as he heads north for Tim Easterby.
He doesn't have to lead – came from behind to win at Hamilton last month – but he, arguably, took his form to a new level at Nottingham and is the one to beat, but he is likely to be a very short price. This additional furlong is unlikely to be an issue.
MAYOR OF MAGHERA (Each-Way) (Nap) is 6lbs lower than when scoring over course and distance in a nursery a couple of seasons ago, and he has appreciated the return to the flat since moving yards in recent weeks. He is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time this afternoon and will be ridden by Danny Tudhope, which suggests connections are hopeful of a big run, and I agree.
His third over course and distance at the beginning of the month was an encouraging run, and he ran well on ground softer than ideal – but not soft as per official description – at Ayr last time. He is recommended as the alternative to the likely market leader.
Recommendation: Mayor Of Maghera (Each-Way) (Nap) - 9/2 with bet365 (3 places)
4:00pm Musselburgh - Abduction (Each-Way)
It could be a good day for apprentice Jake Dickson, who has been booked by Jim Goldie to ride ABDUCTION (Each-Way) in the 7f handicap. The eight-year-old has never been the most dependable, but scored over course and distance off today's mark back in April when professionally ridden.
He is, arguably, 7lbs lower this afternoon and ran an excellent race at Ayr over six furlongs earlier this month. He is well drawn in stall five this afternoon and, if he gets the breaks at the right time, I can see him mowing down this field inside the final furlong.
Top-weight Son and Native Instinct are considered the chief threats, with the latter considered the main danger having been marooned in the centre of the track at Carlisle when last seen on ground softer than ideal. Danny Tudhope takes over for the first time for Ed Bethell, and a market move would be noteworthy.
Recommendation: Abduction (Each-Way) - 5/1 with bet365 (3 places)
5:10pm Salisbury - Dark Sovereign
Only three go to post for the Bibury Cup – the feature race on the card – but all are last time out winners, and it is a trappy little race. Of more interest from a betting medium is the 1m handicap for three-year-olds, which concludes the card.
Station Bar improved for the step up to a mile last time, but it was only a three-runner race, and a 5lbs rise looks punitive, although he was well on top at the line. He was sent off the 7/1 outsider of the field at Bath, which suggested connections were not convinced he was guaranteed to appreciate the mile, but he was going away at the end and should not be underestimated.
John Harrison has not been seen since the New Year, when fourth of six at Lingfield over a mile on handicap debut. Trainer Alan King has his string in tremendous shape, and this inmate has been gelded in the interim period. A check of the market is advised.
DARK SOVEREIGN is a half-brother to a Group 3 winner in Ireland over a mile and tries the distance for the first time. I thought he looked ready for another furlong when fourth at Sandown last time over 7f, when he was carried left inside the final furlong when making his challenge. He is drawn in stall one today, and I wonder if Hector Crouch will go forward and dictate his own fractions.
He has been dropped a pound since Sandown and is bred to be better than his current rating. After just four career starts, he is open to further improvement, and the hope is that the additional furlong is the key.
Recommendation: Dark Sovereign - 3/1 with bet365
