Charlie heads to Goodwood on Thursday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
1:50pm Goodwood - Dial Me In (Each-Way)
Evanesco is well drawn for one who likes to lead, and Charlie Johnston was disappointed with his run at Newmarket last time when he suggested that he thought he had his field covered two furlongs out, but folded tamely.
This meeting used to be a benefit for the yard, but they have had difficulty finding winners here in recent years, although it would be no surprise to see this inmate bounce back. He was well backed at Newmarket and is clearly highly regarded by connections.
I am going to take a chance on Joseph O'Brien's DIAL ME IN (Each-Way), a non-stayer over 12f at Royal Ascot, when he was slowly away. James McDonald made a sweeping move out wide at the top of the straight, but he failed to get home on his first start at a mile-and-a-half.
Well drawn in stall four, the colt had previously finished second – beaten over 2l - to the 103-rated stablemate Nil Bua Gan Dua, giving him 5lbs over this trip. He may have been flattered to get so close to the winner, but he looks fairly treated off a rating of eighty-eight. The return to 10f will suit, and Dylan Browne McMonagle returns to the saddle.
Recommendation: Dial Me In (Each-Way) - 12/1 with bet365 (4 places)
3:00pm Goodwood - Enceladus (Nap)
Hector Crouch will be hoping for a big run from Bay Of Brilliance, whose second to Maltese Falcon in the Lingfield Derby Trial is, arguably, the best form on offer. He finished fourth in the Derby on soft ground back in June before finishing last in the German equivalent when sent off market leader.
The return to a sound surface will suit, and jockey and trainer could do with a change of fortune after Crouch fell off Amiloc in the Goodwood Cup earlier in the week.
I want to back Sahara King as I was hugely impressed with his second in the 10f London Gold Cup – as were Wathnan Racing, who acquired him – but he was below par at Royal Ascot, and he is not bred to appreciate this mile-and-a-half.
ENCELADUS (Nap) won the King George V Stakes at the Royal meeting last month and can make a successful transition to Pattern company. He is unbeaten in two starts so far this term, and the form of his Ascot win was given a boost when the second, Al Azd, who he received 3lbs from, dotted up in an Ascot handicap last weekend and is now rated 109.
The official ratings have Enceladus having plenty to find with the other principles, but I would rate him over 110 on a line through Al Azd, and, after just four career starts, he is open to further improvement.
Recommendation: Enceladus (Nap) - 3/1 with bet365
5:55pm Goodwood - Get Outta Here (Each-Way)
Jamie Spencer returns to the saddle on David Menuisier's GET OUTTA HERE (Each-Way), who was beaten a nose over course and distancd by a filly now rated 10lbs higher on his penultimate start before disappointing – despite finishing third – at York last time.
The selection has an excellent draw in stall two, although Spencer will need luck in running. There were a few hard-luck stories on the opening day with the runners fanning out across the track.
Law Court and Electric Dreams are considered the chief threats, and Oisin Murphy, who is Menuisier's “go-to" jockey, rides the latter for James Fanshawe. It would be interesting to know if the champion jockey was offered the ride on the selection, although Spencer, who was in the plate when Get Outta Here scored at Lingfield, is defending a 100% record on the gelding.
Recommendation: Get Outta Here (Each-Way) - 9/1 with Sky Bet (6 places)
4:30pm Galway - Murcia & Gameball
If there is one horse that can turn the Galway Hurdle into a procession, then it is surely El Cairos, who was not beaten far in Grade 1 Hurdles at both Cheltenham and Punchestown back in the spring. He has always been held in high regard since his Bumper days when trained by Gary Moore.
He is fitted with a tongue-tie for the first time by Gordon Elliot this afternoon, and is a must for any shortlist, but my two against the field are MURCIA and GAMEBALL, and I have backed the pair.
The mare Murcia is a Grade 1 winning juvenile – Puturhandstogether behind and held – who looks fairly treated from a mark of 138 and will appreciate the return to the minimum trip, having been outstayed over an additional half mile at Killarney earlier in the month.
Mullins saddles five of the 20-runner field, and Murcia is the pick of Paul Townend. Mullins has saddled the winner four times in the last decade, and Murcia looks primed to run a big race.
Gameball is another whose prep race today was over an additional half mile, and he, too, looks sure to appreciate the return to the minimum trip for Henry de Bromhead, who has never saddled the winner of this valuable and historic prize.
I wouldn't want too much rain overnight, good to soft at worst, but the forecast is for a dry 24 hours after the rain that hit the track Monday and Tuesday. I will be looking at the times on Wednesday, and the faster the ground, the better for Gameball.
