Charlie heads to Goodwood on Tuesday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
1:50pm Goodwood - Twisting Physics & Al Aali (Each-Way)
A high draw has been an advantage in recent years in the Chesterfield Cup but my two against the field TWISTING PHYSICS (6) and AL AALI (3) are drawn low and remain open to further improvement at this ten-furlong trip. Twisting Physics had hinted that he was well ahead of his mark over this distance and the 2lbs rise for his recent Windsor success is fair. Ashley Lewis is good value for his 5lbs claim and he has improved for the application of cheekpieces and step up in trip in recent starts.
Jamie Spencer can do 8st 8lbs but favours the owner's second runner Midak (5) but I am happy with Ashley Lewis. Luck will play its part in these big handicaps all week and it will be hard for Al Aali to repeat that tactics of his six-runner victory on the July course when he came from last to first under Billy Loughnane.
That fluent success came in first-time blinkers and, with title chasing Loughnane riding at Yarmouth, Will Buick takes over in the saddle. Buick got an eight-day ban at Windsor last week for careless riding and I thought he got away lightly when you consider Rossa Ryan's 28-day ban for not riding out for two strides at Sandown last week. The hope is that Buick is hungry for winners ahead of his enforced ban although he will need luck as he weaves his way through the field.
Recommendation: Twisting Physics (Each-Way) - 18/1 with bet365 & William Hill, Al Aali (Each-Way) - 10/1 with BetVictor/Coral/Ladbrokes/Boyles
3:35pm Goodwood - Amiloc
The Goodwood Cup sees the rematch between the Ascot Gold Cup 1-2 Scandinavia and Trawlerman and I would be surprised if the Ballydoyle four-year-old did not confirm the form dropping back down to two miles. I was impressed with Rahiebb – second to Scandinavia in the Leger back in September – when he landed the 1m6f Yorkshire Cup back in the spring.
Roger Varian's 4-y-old palpably failed to stay two-and-a-half miles at Ascot but I'm not convinced he was still cantering half-a-mile from home, and he is overlooked despite finishing as well as anything at Doncaster over that extended 1m6f on soft ground. In an ideal world he would have a bit more cut in the ground and he disappointed when fourth here over 12f in the Gordon Stakes on good to soft ground at this corresponding meeting twelve months ago.
In the market without Scandinavia and Trawlerman I am going to take a chance on the stamina of AMILOC who I believe is better going right-handed and ran as well as ever when sixth in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot last month. He finished 11l behind Rahiebb at York back in the spring, but the Ralph Beckett horses weren't exactly firing at the time. Unbeaten in two starts at the track last season – albeit over a mile and eleven furlongs – I am prepared to take a chance on his stamina.
Recommendation: Amiloc (in the market without Scandinavia and Trawlerman) - 11/4 with William Hill
5:20pm Goodwood - Crazee Icon (Nap, Each-Way)
CRAZEE ICON has won her last couple at Chester, and she was entered in a very winnable looking race back at the Roodeye on Saturday, but connections bypassed that opportunity to wait for this valuable 3-y-old fillies' handicap. The filly first went into my tracker when second under Oisin Murphy here on good ground back in October and has progressed nicely in all starts – save one in a first-time hood at Newmarket – this term although she is 8lbs higher in the weights than when gaining the first of her recent wins at Chester last month.
Her usual partners Jason Watson and Oisin Murphy can't do the weight (8st 4lbs), so Ray Dawson takes over in the plate. She has a good draw in stall six – low numbers preferred over a mile – and is one of eight 3-y-old in the fifteen-runner field. Note the classic generation have won the corresponding race every year in the last decade and only three of the last ten winners have been drawn in double figures.
There are any number of potential improvers with Wid and Electrifarhh top of a long shortlist, but I will be disappointed if Crazee Icon does not run a big race if she gets a clear run.
Recommendation: Crazee Icon (Nap, Each-Way) - 6/1 across the board including SkyBet (5 places)
