Charlie McCann’s Horse Racing Tips For Wednesday, 24 June - Carlisle
Charlie heads to Carlisle on Wednesday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.com.
3:30pm Carlisle - Geo (Each-Way) (Nap)
My two against the field in the consolation race for the Carlisle Bell are the four-year-old filly GEO (Each-Way) (Nap) and the three-year-old Runswick, with marginal preference for the former.
The booking of Tom Marquand for Jim Goldie's Geo catches the eye, and the yard remains in excellent form. The filly was rated seventy-one when landing a Newbury nursery for Eve Johnson-Houghton a couple of years ago and had the third 3l away when second at Hamilton last week - beaten a neck - by an inform rival from the Tim Easterby stable. He can race from a mark of sixty-seven this afternoon.
The classic generation won the corresponding race twelve months ago, and Runswick ran a cracker when beaten a neck at Chester earlier in the month from a 2lbs lower mark. Danny Tudhope takes over for the first time on Ed Dunlop's colt, whose best form is with a bit of juice in the ground.
He is likely to continue to improve, but is edging up the weights, although three-year-olds receive 10lbs weight-for-age from their elders. If prices allow, I will support both, but one word of caution regarding the form of the Ed Dunlop yard.
The Newmarket handler has gone a bit quiet in recent weeks - zero winners from his last eighteen runners – and three of the yard's four Royal Ascot runners underperformed, although Starmade did run well – favourably drawn – when fifth in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse.
Barley won the corresponding race two years ago from a 5lbs higher mark and has finished second in his last couple of starts. The seven-year-old has dropped to an attractive mark and Easterby – who should know where he stands with Geo - has averaged a winner a day over the last fortnight.
Barley is more exposed than Geo or Runswick but has his optimum conditions and looks sure to go close to landing the prize for the second time in three years.
Recommendation: Geo (Each-Way) (Nap) - 6/1 with bet365 (3 places)
4:02pm Carlisle - Stimulative Trip (Each-Way)
The listed Eternal Stakes is a poor renewal with the 100-rated Ellusive Butterfly and 99-rated Golden Palace heading the market and clear on ratings. They set the standard, but the bar is not particularly high, and I am going to take a chance each way on STIMULATIVE TRIP (Each-Way), whose sole success came over seven furlongs on fast ground at Newbury on racecourse debut. She has those conditions for the first time since this afternoon.
Trained by David Meuisier, the filly never threatened in the Fred Darling on her reappearance, and her trainer suggested you can put a line through her run in Chantilly last time in a similar contest when she lost her action two furlongs from home and finished weakly.
I thought she looked smart on her sole juvenile start at the Berkshire track, and Menuisier has suggested that black type remains the aim. After just three career starts, she is open to considerable improvement, and Paul Mulrennan takes over in the plate for a yard who could hardly be in better form with four winners from their last seven runners, including Lost Boys, whom I skilfully avoided at Royal Ascot on Saturday.
William Hill are the only firm with prices on Tuesday morning. Their 7/1 quote looks a bit skinny, and there might be slightly bigger when other firms publish their odds later in the day.
Recommendation: Stimulative Trip (Each-Way) - 8/1 with bet365 (3 places)
4:35pm Carlisle - Leadenhall (Each-Way) & Financer (Each-Way)
In the Carlisle Bell LEADENHALL (Each-Way) escapes a penalty for winning an apprentice race at Nottingham – one of six winners on the day for Tim Easterby – on Saturday and has been raised 4lbs from the weekend for that fluent success, albeit that was only a modest five-runner race.
Jake Dickson takes off 7lbs today but couldn't claim on Saturday, and the six-year-old would have been a confident selection were it not for his draw in stall thirteen of seventeen. That said, three of the last five winners of this famous old race have come from double-figure stalls, and they have tended to race down the centre of the track this year.
I am going to support the other Easterby runner in the field, FINANCER (Each-Way) – ridden by stable jockey David Allan - who is blinkered for the first time dropping back down in trip. All three of his career successes have come over ten furlongs, but he ran well dropped back down to 1m1f at York last time – one of the last off the bridle – and he has been dropped 2lbs for the run.
The five-year-old is 8lbs below his last winning mark, and his York run certainly hinted that a try down at a mile was well worth exploring. If the headgear ekes out a bit of improvement, then he looks sure to run a big race, and the quicker they go, the better for this strong traveller.
The two Easterby-trained representatives are both 9/1 with William Hill – again, the only firm with prices at the time of writing.
Recommendations: Leadenhall (Each-Way) - 9/1 with bet365 (5 places) & Financer (Each-Way) - 14/1 with bet365 (5 places)
