Charlie heads to Newbury on Wednesday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
4:10pm Newbury - Primal
Mobadir is only 4lbs higher than when scoring over six furlongs at Nottingham on handicap debut, and he is bred – out of a 7/8f winner – to appreciate the additional furlong. A mark of sixty-two is unlikely to be his ceiling, but this is a deep 7f nursery with numerous handicap debutants who look open to significant improvement.
That said, I thought PRIMAL would have gone close in a competitive Goodwood handicap with a clear run last time, and a 1lb rise looks fair. Oisin Murphy takes over in the saddle for Andrew Balding for the first time since the selection's racecourse debut at Nottingham back in June.
Marco Ghiani rode the selection last time – Murphy rode the unlucky market leader Mia Fantasia, who bolted up at York last week under Ghiani! – and he takes the ride on Marco Botti's Mino, who is one of those unexposed nursery debutants and considered the chief threat in a hot heat.
Recommendation: Primal - 5/2 with Paddy Power
6:30pm Newbury - River Card (Each-Way) (Nap)
The classic generation have won the last four renewals of the 1m handicap and the hat-trick-seeking filly Accademia has more to offer despite being raised 13lbs for her two recent successes, including over course and distance from a 6lbs lower mark last month on her first try at a mile.
The vote, however, goes to fellow three-year-old RIVER CARD (Each-Way) (Nap) who makes his belated seasonal reappearance for Brian Meehan, having been off the course since disappointing at Longchamp on Arc weekend.
The selection had previously finished second to the 106-rated Northern Champion at Deauville on debut in another sales' race before beating subsequent Derby runner-up and leading Arc fancy Maltese Cross at Ascot in September with Royal Ascot winner the 103-rated Lost Boys back in third.
That success came on soft ground – time suggested on the cusp of good to soft – and the selection must prove his ability to handle this evening's fast ground, but he looks very well handicapped from an opening mark of eighty-six.
Recommendation: River Card (Each-Way) (Nap) - 11/1 with bet365 (4 places)
7:30pm Newbury - Eagles Attire (Each-Way)
The three joint top-weights all won last time out, including handicap debutant Livemore who is unexposed and won a Newmarket Novice last time although a mark of eighty looks harsh given the second has finished last in two subsequent starts.
EAGLES ATTIRE (Each-Way) was well backed but was a late non-runner with a pricked foot at Lingfield on polytrack last month on what was due to be his handicap debut. There are mixed messages on breeding as to whether ten furlongs will suit, but he was only beaten 4l in the sales race at Deauville over 7f on debut and wasn't beaten far in his two subsequent starts.
He has been gelded since his last start, and it will be interesting to see if he is as well backed as he was before Lingfield, although this looks a much stronger race than that all-weather contest.
