Cheltenham Tips - New Years Day Horse Racing
My three tips are in focus below, with latest odds from the best betting sites too, so you can see what prices are currently available on them all.
Cheltenham 1:25pm - Does He Know (EW)
A wide open handicap, as many are on this card, and although up in the weights, and coming into the veteran part of his career, I'll take a chance on Does He Know each way for the Kim Bailey team.
This horse won his only start so far this season in great style, a 17 length demolition job at Haydock, he's up 6lb for that victory.
Now, there's no doubt the race at Haydock fell apart a little, but I was still impressed, and the handicapper hasn't been too harsh on him, despite the wide margin.
Off top weight, I think he can go well again here, it's much more competitive, but he should be an each way price.
Cheltenham 2:00pm - Matata (EW)
Another horse that can go well at a big price, and at the time of writing, Matata is the outsider of the entire field for this handicap.
Go back less than a year, he's running in graded company, behind the likes of Jonbon in Grade One races, and being two lengths back in Grade Two company.
Rated as high as 163 during that time, he's now on a mark of 154, which brings handicaps into the equation for him. Third in a good race at Kelso last time out, that was a decent run, and I'm hoping the extra couple of furlongs here are something that he'll appreciate at this stage in his career.
Cheltenham 2:35pm - Lucky Place
The last of my horse racing tips is a win selection and I find the value in the Relkeel Hurdle all lies with Lucky Place.
He's a rock solid option in this contest, won this race last year and has proven himself as a staying hurdler since he took this contest 12 months ago.
The danger is of course Kabral Du Mathan, who comes here on the back of a smooth success in a handicap last time out, and is odds on to follow up here, as he moves into graded company.
He could improve past Lucky Place, but he's odds on, and has yet to prove himself in this kind of race, so I do have question marks over him. I'd rather stick with the proven entity, and I think the odds on offer for Lucky Place to win this race for the second year, are more than fair.
