How to Bet on the Premier League
Betting on the Premier League is straightforward, with plenty of markets available before kick-off and throughout the match.
If you're looking to back a match result, build an accumulator or try an in-play market, here's how to get started:
- Pick a market - choose from outright markets, match result, goals, player props and plenty of other options available across the Premier League.
- Check the odds - UK betting sites usually display prices in fractional format, such as 5/1, or decimal format, such as 6.00. Most bookmakers let you switch between the two.
- Choose your stake - decide how much you want to bet and only stake an amount you can comfortably afford to lose. Remember that betting always carries the risk of losing your stake.
- Place your bet - back a single selection or combine several picks in an accumulator. Every selection in an accumulator must win for the bet to pay out, although some bookmakers offer extra features such as Acca Insurance.
- Check your bet slip - before confirming, check your selections, odds, stake and potential return. Make sure everything is correct before placing the bet.
Live betting is also available on most Premier League matches, allowing you to place bets while the action is underway.
In-play odds change continuously as goals, cards, substitutions and other events affect the match, so prices can move quickly.
Premier League Betting Markets Explained
- Match Result (1X2) - Bet on the home win (1), draw (X) or away win (2), with the market settled on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
- Both Teams to Score (BTTS) - A simple Yes/No bet on whether both teams score at least once during the match.
- Over/Under 2.5 Goals - Predict if the game produces more or fewer than 2.5 goals in total.
- Correct Score - Predict the exact final score. With more possible outcomes to choose from, correct-score bets typically offer bigger odds.
- Anytime Goalscorer - Back a named player to score at any point during the match, regardless of the final result.
- Handicap (including Asian Handicap) - One team receives a virtual goal advantage or disadvantage to level the playing field. Asian Handicap markets typically remove the draw from the equation.
- Bet Builder - Combine multiple selections from the same match, such as a player to score and both teams to score, into one bet. All selections must be successful for the bet to win.
- Accumulator (Acca) - Combine selections from different matches into one bet. Potential returns increase with each selection, but every leg must win for the accumulator to pay out.
- Outright / Futures Markets - Season-long bets that are settled at the end of the campaign, including the Premier League winner, top scorer and relegation markets, plus Top 4 Finish, Golden Glove and Manager of the Season.
Premier League Format & Key Dates
The Premier League features 20 clubs, with each team playing 38 matches across the season - home and away against every other club - for a total of 380 fixtures.
Teams earn three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat, with the table decided by points, goal difference and then goals scored.
Promotion & Relegation
The bottom three clubs are relegated to the EFL Championship each season and replaced by three promoted teams - the Championship's top two finishers plus the winners of the Championship play-off final.
European Qualification
The highest-placed clubs qualify for UEFA competitions, with Champions League, Europa League and Conference League places awarded according to the final table and UEFA's rules. The number of Champions League places available to English clubs can vary from season to season.
