Birmingham City vs Middlesbrough Tips, Bet Builder Prediction & Odds

Middlesbrough’s Championship promotion charge is under duress after a three-match winless run, and they face another challenge on Monday night in a trip to St Andrew’s to take on Birmingham City.
Kim Hellberg’s men were sitting top of the Championship before losing 3-0 to Coventry two weeks ago, and are now trailing the Sky Blues by eight points.
Behind them, Millwall and Ipswich Town are closing in, with the former sitting only one point behind in third.
Birmingham are also in need of the points to keep their faint hope of pushing for the play-offs alive. The Midlands outfit will require a late-season surge to have any hope of making it two promotions on the bounce.

Tip 1: Draw
Birmingham enter the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall during the week. The defeat to the Lions has all but ended their hopes of making a charge for the play-offs and another loss would ramp up the pressure on Chris Davies, despite his achievements last season.
Birmingham are an ambitious outfit, and the performance of fellow newly-promoted side Wrexham, currently in the Championship’s top six, could prompt a change in the summer.
Blues can still make a late surge, and their loss to Millwall was their first in nine. Davies’ side have been strong at home over the course of the campaign, losing just once in 15 matches at St Andrew’s.
However, Boro are also formidable on the road, boasting the fourth-best away record in the second tier. Hellberg’s men had a game to forget against Coventry and suffered a hangover in home draws to Oxford and Leicester.
All signs point to this match being a close contest, and I like the 13/5 available on the draw on football betting sites.
Tip 2: Marvin Ducksch Over 0.5 Shots On Target
Marvin Ducksch has been a pivotal player in Birmingham’s campaign with eight goals to his name in the Championship, behind only Jay Stansfield.
The German had a slow start to the season, scoring only three times in 2025. However, since the turn of the year, Ducksch has been on form, finding the net five times in his last nine Championship appearances.
He has been deployed just behind Stansfield, and the two appear to be working in solid tandem, although Ducksch was left on the bench for the midweek defeat to Millwall.
Expect him to be back in the starting line-up with a point to prove against Boro. Before the Millwall defeat, Ducksch had registered at least one shot on target in four straight matches.
He's 4/5 on betting sites to find his mark once again.
Tip 3: Under 2.5 Goals, Middlesbrough Under 1.5 Cards & Hayden Hackney Over 1.5 Fouls
Both teams are in the middle of the pack in games involving over 2.5 goals this season. I’m expecting a tactical battle between two sides that are fairly evenly matched. Odds of 19/20 to start our bet builder are decent for under 2.5 goals.
Middlesbrough are one of the best-behaved sides in the Championship this season; only Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday have a better disciplinary record. Taking the under on 1.5 cards for the visitors seems a fairly solid option for leg 2.
Hayden Hackney is Middlesbrough’s key cog in the middle of the park, but he does like to get stuck in. He averages 1.5 fouls per game and it’s enough for us to be tempted by the 23/20 odds to get our bet builder up to an 11/1 price.
