Manchester City vs Newcastle Betting Preview, Tips & Best Odds

Manchester City host Newcastle on Saturday night looking to amplify the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The Gunners are five points clear of City having played a game more, and a home win for Pep Guardiola’s in-form side would close the gap to just two points ahead of Arsenal’s crucial trip to Tottenham on Sunday.
Anxiety certainly seems to be spreading within the Gunners' camp, but there’s also a lot of expectancy on City to collect three points this weekend.
Luckily for them, Newcastle are statistically one of their favourite opponents, which we’ll elaborate on in our betting tips below.
Manchester City vs Newcastle Tips
Tip 1: City To Win To Nil
City could hardly have asked for a better opponent than Newcastle as the Premier League title race heads into what feels like a crucial weekend.
The Citizens have won their last 12 home games against the Magpies and 18 of their last 19 meetings overall, making them 4/9 shots for three points on Saturday night.
Granted, Newcastle won the last league encounter between these sides back in November, but City look a much better side now and have finally established some consistency with four wins on the bounce in all competitions.
They’ve even shored up at the back, with Gianluigi Donnarumma instrumental in City keeping eight clean sheets in their last 12 Premier League games.
Guardiola's side also won each of their last six Premier League home games against Newcastle without conceding, so the omens are good.
At decent odds of 21/10, I’m backing that outcome once again on the basis that Newcastle could be fatigued from their midweek trip to Azerbaijan, but mainly their appalling record at the Etihad.
Tip 2: City To Score More First-Half Goals Than Second-Half Goals
In eight of their last nine trips to the Etihad, Newcastle have conceded the opening goal inside the opening 20 minutes.
On each occasion they’ve gone on to lose to City, and the odds are stacked against them in the win market again, especially since they are without a Premier League victory on the road in their last 10 visits to top-half teams.
City will want to put this game to bed early to avoid any doubts creeping in, so I’m expecting the hosts to come out of the traps pretty early to crush any notions Newcastle may have of picking up a result.
There are niche markets available on football betting sites for those predicting an early Man City onslaught. Bet365 probably have the best range of options.
They have priced up the odds of the deadlock being broken before the 23rd minute at 5/6, but I think we can get away with being more ambitious than that.
Bet365 have a market on the highest scoring half for both home and away teams, with City having odds of 2/1 to score more goals in the first half verses the second (11/5).
Given what’s at stake and how important it is for City to take control of this game, I like those odds.
Tip 3: Omar Marmoush to score anytime
Although Guardiola has suggested Erling Haaland has recovered from a slight knock in time to face Newcastle, we don’t know for sure if he’ll start the big Norwegian striker.
Either way, Omar Marmoush is once again chipping in with his fair share of goals and Newcastle will be sick of the sight of him if recent meetings are anything to go by.
The Egyptian has bagged five goals in his two home outings against the Toon, including a hat-trick in last season’s 4-0 win in the Premier League.
He notched the other two goals in this month’s League Cup semi-final second-leg win and is expected to be in City’s XI on Saturday night.
With Haaland odds-on to score anytime, Marmoush’s price looks a little inflated at 8/5 on BetMGM.
On several betting apps he’s a tempting price of 11/2 to break the deadlock, but we’re snapping up the anytime value instead.
