Here are Kai's five top football betting tips for the weekend, featuring the best odds from UK betting sites to help you get maximum value on your bets.
Dundee vs Hibernian - Both teams to score
Dundee have improved massively under Steven Pressley in recent months when many would have thought they were doomed to the bottom two places. Currently though, they sit in ninth and are four clear of St. Mirren in tenth and six clear of Kilmarnock in eleventh with a game in hand. They also now sit just two points behind Aberdeen and three behind rivals Dundee United, with all three having played the same games.
Dundee had an excellent victory against Aberdeen last week, they went 1-0 down before the red card and equalised from the penalty spot and took the lead just before half-time. Aberdeen equalised through an excellent Kevin Nisbet freekick but just six minutes from time, Ethan Hamilton scored what, for me, is the goal of the season so far to ensure the three points.
After a derby day defeat at Tynecastle, Hibs have won their last two, including an impressive late victory against ten man Celtic at Celtic Park last Sunday. David Gray’s side currently sit third in the form table but need to keep winning if they want to catch fourth placed Motherwell who sit top of the form table and five points clear with a game in hand.
Falkirk are also only six points behind Hibs and could catch them before the split. Dundee have had some memorable home results, like beating Celtic, this season and Dens is a difficult place to go so I can see this being a good game.
Simon Murray is hitting form and Hibs have looked great the last couple of weeks, I’m prepared for goals in this one!
Falkirk vs Kilmarnock - Falkirk to win
Falkirk have impressed and surprised a lot of people this season, mostly with the fact they’re still playing the same brand of football they played in the Championship. Not only that but they’ve shown a solidity defensively and have the sixth best defensive record in the league, as a newly promoted side!
I, alongside many others, didn’t think the business they had done would be enough but some of the players have really stepped up and have been with the club since their League One days a couple of years ago.
Killie have looked better under Neil McCann but he’ll still be disappointed by their second half collapse against Celtic and they didn’t look great going forward against Dundee United last week. Tyreece John-Jules being out for the season is a massive blow for them given how impressive he was in that Celtic match.
They will need others to step up if they want to get out of the relegation play-off spot but they’re currently two points behind St. Mirren, who have a game in hand.
The away side have the second worst defensive record in the league and even though Falkirk aren’t the most clinical, they create a lot of chances and have exciting players in the wide areas. Particularly at home, I think this could be a comfortable win for John McGlynn’s men.
Motherwell vs Dundee United - Motherwell to win
Motherwell play the best football in the Scottish Premiership and there’s no debate to be had about that. They are also top of the form table having won four and drawing one of their last five, with the draw being against Rangers at Fir Park whilst they were down to ten men.
In those five matches, they have also scored fourteen goals and only conceded once (against Rangers). Their recent form is incredible, in fact, it’s the form of a team that should be challenging for the title. Having a +13 goal difference in your last five matches is quite frankly ridiculous and they were electric against St. Mirren, already being 3-0 before the red card and it ending 5-0.
Dundee United have only one once in their last five but are currently unbeaten in three, drawing the last two against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock. I can’t see Dundee United going to Fir Park and coming away with anything given how both sides have been playing in recent weeks.
I’m predicting a comfortable Motherwell win in this one.
Dunfermline vs Queen’s Park - Both teams to score
Dunfermline’s form in the last five has been really poor with no wins in the last four and losing three of them, only managing a draw in the last game Partick Thistle on Tuesday evening, which was an impressive result.
Queen’s Park have picked up some decent form as of late, winning three and drawing one of their last five with that draw being against league leaders St. Johnstone midweek. Their recent form has seen them move five points clear of bottom placed Ross County who they beat 1-0 in Dingwall just a couple of weeks ago.
With a game in hand they sit just two points behind Morton and on the same games played, just two behind their opponents on Saturday. This is a massive game for both, Dunfermline are currently only three points off of the last play-off spot and this part of the league table is so tight!
That means that both teams really need to go for the win and neither have been great at keeping goals out so I’m predicting a pretty open game at East End Park.
Stenhousemuir vs Cove Rangers - Stenhousemuir to win
Stenhousemuir currently sit five points behind league leaders Inverness so need to keep winning games if they want that one automatic promotion spot. They know how hard it is to get out of the play-offs after their defeat to Airdrie last year so will be desperate to finish top.
Cove have only lost one of their last five but still sit in eight and are only out of the relegation play-off spot due to further deductions for Hamilton.
Given that Stenny have only lost one home game this season and Cove have only won three away games in thirteen, I can only see this going one way.
