Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday Tips, Bet Builder Prediction & Odds

The Sheffield derby takes on greater significance in the Championship as hosts Sheffield United could relegate rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
Wednesday’s fate was all but sealed following their 12-point deduction after entering administration earlier this season, but the Blades can end their three-year stay in the second tier by simply denying their rivals victory.
Chris Wilder’s men already have their own reason to press for points in their bid to reach the play-offs. The Blades have recovered from their poor start to the campaign, but are still off the pace of the top six, and with time running out in the campaign, they need to make their move sooner rather than later.
The Sheffield derby is always a fierce contest, and Wilder’s celebrations in the meeting earlier this season will not have been forgotten by a team with nothing to lose.

Tip 1: Sheffield United -1 Handicap
The Owls have battled in spite of all the turmoil surrounding the club this season, but their fate has been sealed and they will be returning to League One.
Whether it occurs on Sunday is up to them, and a temporary respite would give their fans at least something to take from the campaign that it was not their rivals that put the final nail in the coffin.
However, Henrik Pedersen’s men have only won once in 32 Championship games and enter the derby on a nine-game losing streak. The odds are well and truly stacked against them.
Despite United’s terrible start to the season, they are only six points away from a top-six place. Wilder’s men certainly have the quality in their ranks, but have lacked the cohesion of the side that reached the play-off final.
Their early-season turmoil with the appointment of Ruben Selles and then the rehiring of Wilder just two months later left the Blades with an uphill challenge. However, you cannot count them out just yet, having won three of their last five, including an impressive 3-1 win over Ipswich.
United’s defeat to Middlesbrough last time out at home was their first at Bramall Lane since November. Between November 1 and February 9, the Blades won seven of nine matches, all by two goals or more. I like the odds of them repeating that on Sunday at 8/15 on football betting sites.
Tip 2: Andre Brooks To Score Anytime
Andre Brooks has come to the fore for Wilder’s men over the last month.
The midfielder has scored four Championship goals in his last five matches, including a vital strike at the death to defeat Portsmouth 1-0 at Fratton Park.
With injuries in the ranks, Brooks has taken his chance in the starting line-up in a central role, and the 22-year-old could be a decisive player for his team in the final three months of the campaign.
There will be chances for Brooks to find the back of the net against a leaky Owls defence. His efficiency should be noted as his last four goals have come from just 10 attempts at goal.
Odds of 16/1 on betting sites are a decent outside shout for Brooks to notch his first brace of the campaign, but I’m going for a safer option for him to score anytime.
Tip 3: Sheffield United To Win To Nil, Gustavo Hamer Over 0.5 Assists and Over 3.5 Total Cards
Sheffield United have been strong at Bramall Lane outside of their defeat to Boro. Since November 1, they’ve only conceded six goals at home and face a Wednesday outfit that has found the net in one of their last 10 league matches. The 8/11 odds of a United win and clean sheet are pretty good.
Gustavo Hamer has been United’s top goal maker this season with eight assists to his name. Before their win over Portsmouth, Hamer had notched at least one assist in four-straight games. I like his chances of getting back on the assist trail against the Owls.
Both of these teams are relatively well behaved in the Championship with the Owls boasting the best disciplinary record in the second tier.
The Blades are also in the bottom half for cards attributed this term, but this is a derby, and the card line has been set at 3.5, which is fairly low for a fiery encounter.
There were only three cards in the previous meeting, but I’m taking the over for this one.
