Charlie heads to Nottingham on Monday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
5:10pm Nottingham - Venetian Lion (Nap)
The four-runner 10f handicap is a fascinating race with three unexposed three-year-olds taking on a well handicapped older horse in Dawn Of Liberation.
Of more interest from a betting perspective might be VENETIAN LION (Nap), who ran an eye-catching race on handicap debut at Southwell when second off this mark a week ago.
A half-brother to seven winners, the William Haggas-trained three-year-old got going too late when beaten half a length at Southwell, and he is likely to get further than a mile. This extended mile is a plus, and the gelding takes up this option rather than a similar race at Ffos Las tomorrow for which he was entered at the six-day stage.
The Haggas yard is in excellent form and had three winners at Glorious Goodwood, but only one was ridden by Tom Marquand, and I wonder if they would have settled for that number at the beginning of the week.
Theme Park was slowly away when a never-nearer second here four days ago, but he is only 4lbs higher than when scoring at Doncaster on his penultimate start, and this six-year-old is very well handicapped on his best form. He is considered the chief threat.
Recommendation: Venetian Lion (Nap) - 10/11 with bet365
8:30pm Windsor - Flag Carrier (Each-Way)
Chilly Breeze was too keen at Doncaster over their round mile when runner-up to Theme Park (see above) last time, and Billy Loughnane, who takes over in the saddle for the first time, will need to get the four-year-old to settle.
If he does, he will be tough to beat for Ian Williams, and it goes without saying that a good run from Theme Park earlier in the day would be a boost to his chances. That said, his sole win came over 5f - and on soft ground - and I just wonder if he truly gets a mile.
FLAG CARRIER (Each-Way) has yet to win at a mile – both career wins at seven furlongs – but he pulled like a train till past halfway, but was still beaten less than 3l over course and distance on his first start in 240 days last month.
Oisin Murphy was in the plate for the first time here on his belated seasonal debut, and the champion jockey keeps the ride this evening. The hope is that the five-year-old is more amenable to restraint with that run under his belt, and he has dropped 1lb for the run.
Recommendation: Flag Carrier (Each-Way) - 15/2 with bet365 (3 places)
