Boxing Betting Tips
Here are this week's tips from our resident boxing expert, Lewis Watson.
Callum Simpson vs Ivan Zucco and Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni
Weโve got a stacked weekend of boxing ahead of us with the novelty of two stadium fights in one night!
Barnsleyโs Oakwell Stadium and Ipswichโs Portman Road both host โone of their ownโ in Callum Simpson and Fabio Wardley, as both men look to make big leaps into world championship conversations in their respective weight classes.
Both men are favourites ahead of Saturday nightโs action, but neither can afford to rest on their laurels in what could well turn out to be banana-skin fights for either.
Across a combined 36 fights, Simpson and Wardley havenโt yet tasted defeat in the paid ranks โ a record they will be looking to continue live on Sky Sports and DAZN this Saturday night.
Elsewhere across the globe we have Josh Kelly, Keyshawn Davis, Jai Opetaia and Junto Nakatani all in action, but the fighting prides of Barnsley and Ipswich are going to be our main focus as we check out the best betting from these two headline acts.
Letโs take a look at the best tips from Saturday nightโs two unmissable cards.
Justis Huni to beat Fabio Wardley by Decision/Technical Decision
At 4/1 with bet365, this is a real punt, but the value in Huni causing a big upset inside Portman Road is too good to ignore.
Wardley is a fan-favourite fighter who has rocketed himself up the heavyweight rankings thanks to some highlight-reel KOs, but his experience still has big holes in.
The Ipswich fighter is known for his lack of amateur pedigree, opting for a rare white-collar route into the pro ranks, and a well-schooled operator like Australian Justis Huni could well prove to be the 30-year-oldโs kryptonite.
Huni is fighting pain-free for the first time as a pro following elbow surgery in January, and unbeaten himself in the paid ranks, comes to Ipswich full of confidence in his ability and knowledge that he has fought every style that the sport has to offer throughout his amateur and pro careers.
Wardley canโt say the same โ if he isnโt able to shut the ring off and connect with Huni early in this fight, then it could well become a long night for the betting favourite.
Huni isnโt known to be a big puncher, but a talented boxer with good ring IQ, and a back-footed display off the jab could see him take this on the scorecards.
Justis Huni vs Fabio Wardley โ Fight to go the Distance
Huni is smart enough not to meet the heavy-handed Wardley centre-ring on Saturday night.
The early rounds could well tick by without much action; Huni dancing off the jab and Wardley walking forward trying to time the Australian onto one of his devastating over right hands.
We havenโt seen Huni properly hurt yet as a pro, and he hasnโt done anything yet in his career to suggest he would wilt at the first sign of pressure.
Above Evens for this contest to last the full 36 minutes looks good.
Callum Simpson to beat Ivan Zucco by KO/TKO/Disqualification
An unknown and unbeaten Italian southpaw should have a few alarm bells ringing in the Callum Simpson camp.
Ivan Zucco has moved to 21-0 with 18 KOs so far in his eight-year career, and has fought abroad in Spain and Switzerland as well as plying his trade in Italy.
But if Simpson is as good at super-middleweight as many of us believe, then Zucco should act as a decent stepping stone towards opportunities on the world stage for the Yorkshireman.
Simpson has stopped three of his last four opponents and looks strong at the 168-pound weight.
He has earned his stripes as the British and Commonwealth champion at super-middleweight and the EBU title should be next on Saturday night.
Zucco may have flashes of success, but Simpsonโs ceiling appears higher and a stoppage victory looks well priced.
Callum Simpson to beat Ivan Zucco in Rounds 7-12
Despite an impressive record on paper, Zucco is yet to contest a 12-round fight.
This isnโt to say that the Italian wonโt have the gas tank to move into the championship rounds, but he may well find himself in unchartered waters with Simpson growing into the fight later on.
Zuccoโs last four fights have been six or eight-rounders and Simpsonsโs experience in beating Zak Chelli, impressively, over 12 rounds last August canโt be underestimated.
With the Oakwell faithful โ expected to be at a number around 15,000 โ roaring behind Simpson, a stoppage victory in the second half of the fight looks to be priced well as Zucco begins to fade.
