Boxing Betting Tips
Here are this week's tips from our resident boxing expert, Lewis Watson.
Thereโs nothing quite like a crossroads fight in boxing.
17 years and a wealth of experience separate Saturday nightโs protagonists โ Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte โ and at different ends of their career it is being touted as a potential passing of the torch moment on the domestic heavyweight scene.
Thatโs not to suggest that Whyte has been in possession of said torch over the past half a decade.
The โBodysnatcherโ has gone 4-2 since reaching his peak in 2019, and at 37 years old and 34 fights down, this is his last roll of the dice in moving towards a world title opportunity.
For Itauma, this is just the start of what could be his generation of dominance at heavyweight โ but first, heโll need to navigate his way past one of the UKโs most hardened heavyweights.
Moses Itauma to beat Dillian Whyte in Rounds 1-4
Since losing to Tyson Fury convincingly in April 2022, Dillian Whyte has looked underwhelming in three returns against Jermaine Franklin, Christian Hammer and Ebenezer Tetteh.
He got victories in all three fights, but Saturdayโs opponent, Moses Itauma, is a completely different animal.
The 20-year-old has been touted as the โnext Mike Tysonโ from multiple corners of the boxing world and Whyteโs slow and laborious style looks tailor-made for the heavy-hitting youngster.
Itauma has stopped 10 of his 12 opponents so far and Whyteโs punch resistance must have waned as he approaches the final stretch of his career.
Itauma is a wrecking ball heavyweight and should be able to get the job done early in impressive fashion.
Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte - 2 or more knockdowns
Dillian Whyte has been no stranger to the canvas throughout his career.
Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Alexander Povetkin, Oscar Rivas and Joseph Parker have all dropped the โBodysnatcherโ and itโs hard to imagine a world where he isnโt dropped again in Riyadh this weekend.
Whyteโs powers of recovery will be under the spotlight once Itauma connects first with his heavy artillery, and it may take a couple of attempts from the youngster to get the veteran to admit defeat.
Just under Evens that Whyte touches the canvas twice is a good pick.
Nick Ball to beat Sam Goodman by TKO/KO/Disqualification
Nick Ball is the UKโs only remaining male world champion, so there is added pressure on the Liverpudlian to keep hold of his crown this weekend, and extend his nationโs 37-year run of holding one of the recognised world titles.
Ball is the most active fighter in the UK, now looking at his fifth opponent in just 17 months โ his record sits unblemished at 22-0 and Sam Goodman is the latest in line looking to take the unbeaten record of Ball.
Ball fightโs with incredible aggression and output. Sometimes his technique can be questioned, but you canโt question the results of the 28-year-old, with 13 KOs on his growing record.
Sam Goodman is also unbeaten but is untested at the very top of the division. His defence will have to be water-tight to last the whole 36 minutes with Ball, which is a tough ask.
Goodman is fighting outside of Australia for the first time this weekend and should soon realise that he is a rung or two below that of the reigning WBA featherweight champion.
