Kai Watson's Scottish Football Tips
Saturday, April 26th
St Mirren vs Rangers
- Rangers to win & over 2.5 goals
On paper, Rangers have nothing to play for apart from pride but that couldn’t be further from the actual reality of the situation. With potential new owners just about to come in and a new Sporting Director just appointed, every player's future at the club is potentially up in the air.
There’s very little chance that Barry Ferguson gets the job permanently so their only way to impress people at the club and whoever the future manager will be is through the remaining games, starting on Saturday.
There’s players with their contracts expiring, some on the fringes and some young players looking to break through, the best thing they can do for their future is impress in the aforementioned remaining fixtures.
This is why I think the Rangers players will come out all guns blazing at the SMISA Stadium. Not only that, St. Mirren have beaten Rangers the last twice the sides have played, with the most recent victory being a 2-0 at Ibrox.
If playing for your future wasn’t enough, if getting revenge for the last two defeats wasn’t enough, then surely wanting to get the fans back onside is enough to inspire this Rangers side to a victory.
I predict this match will also be where Hamza Igamane starts to regain his form and he deserves the chance after Cyriel Dessers has been favoured recently.
Aberdeen vs Hibernian
- Hibernian to score in both halves
Hibs incredible run in the Scottish Premiership doesn’t look set to stop with David Gray’s side scoring nine in their last three matches and not conceding any. That includes a 2-0 victory at Ibrox and hammering Dundee 4-0 in their last home game where they looked incredible going forward.
Based on their form and how good the likes of Kieran Bowie and Martin Boyle have looked in the forward line I can see them scoring a few at Pittodrie on Saturday.
That being said, Aberdeen have really picked up their form and are currently unbeaten in their last seven matches and have scored nine in their last five. Last week they also secured a place in the Scottish Cup Final and this is a huge game in the race for third place.
I just think Hibs are genuinely the better side, on paper and in reality. They drew their first meeting of the season but Hibs have since won the last two, winning 3-1 at Pittodrie in December and 2-0 at Easter Road in February.
Not only do I think Hibs will win this one, I also fancy them to score three/four goals whilst doing so.
Hamilton vs Livingston
- Livingston to win & over 1.5 goals
Hamilton were unfortunately deducted 15 points and their relegation to League One was sealed last weekend. The title race, however, is still very much ON.
Falkirk’s defeat to Raith Rovers last Saturday followed Livingston hammering Ayr 5-0 on Friday evening to make the gap sit at just three points with two games left. Falkirk currently have a twelve goal advantage which is why Livingston not only need to win this one but they need to win it convincingly!
They’ve definitely been trying and succeeding to close that goal difference gap in recent weeks. In fact, in their last five matches, Livingston have scored 15 goals, yes, FIFTEEN! They’ve closed the gap on Falkirk and are in excellent form.
The fact that they need to close the gap, not only points wise but also in terms of goals makes me think that Livingston will come out and attack Hamilton from the get-go. David Martindale is brilliant at motivating players so they will all be up for the challenge.
In their meetings this season also it’s 9-1 on aggregate to Livi;
Livingston 3-0 Hamilton - September
Hamilton 1-3 Livingston - November
Livingston 3-0 Hamilton - January
The current form and H2H strongly suggests a Livingston victory is on the cards and I wouldn’t be surprised if they scored three or more at New Douglas Park on Saturday.
Raith Rovers vs Morton
- Both teams to score
Morton still have an outside chance of making the promotion play-offs, however this would require them to beat Raith on Saturday, Partick to have lost on Friday and both Partick and Raith to lose on the final day while Morton would have to beat Dunfermline on the final day.
A lot of things would have to go their way for them to get into the play-offs but that won’t stop Dougie Imrie’s side from doing their best. Raith are in much better form but the H2H record shows a dominance from Morton in recent teams.
They haven’t lost to Raith in their last five meetings, winning two and drawing three. However, Barry Robson’s side are currently unbeaten in eight matches and have scored eleven goals in their last five matches.
Both sides have something to play for and are capable of winning this one, so I think the safe bet is to go for both teams to score at Stark’s Park.
Edinburgh City vs Forfar
- Edinburgh City to win
With two games left, Edinburgh City are six points and nine goals clear of Spartans in fifth place. This means that, although mathematically possible, it’s very unlikely that they will fall out of the promotion play-off spots.
They do play Spartans on the final day so avoiding defeat against Forfar would mathematically secure their play-off spot. They shouldn’t have anything to fear against struggling Forfar, especially considering their H2H record this season;
Forfar 0-3 Edinburgh City - August
Edinburgh City 2-0 Forfar - November
Forfar 0-1 Edinburgh City - February
Forfar haven’t even scored against Michael McIndoe’s side this season, never mind taking a point from them. The fact that it’s at Meadowbank as well makes Edinburgh City heavy favourites, in my opinion.
They can’t move up to second but they’ll be wanting to go into the play-offs in a rich vein of form to have any chance of getting to League One next season.
Scottish Football Tips - Weekly Predictions from Freebets
Scottish football is a world full of tradition and surprises, making it a great focus for fans and anyone interested in betting.
Whether you follow big clubs like Celtic and Rangers as fans, or you’re new to the Scottish leagues, having some helpful betting tips can make things more enjoyable and interesting. We may even improve your betting choices from time to time!
SPFL Betting Tips
Start by getting to know the basics. The Scottish Premiership, the top league, is often led by Celtic and Rangers. Usually too strong for the rest, but other clubs like Hearts, Hibernian, and others, can pull off unexpected wins, shocking the big two.
One point to remember is that the Scottish weather can quietly affect games a little more than in other parts of the UK, though of course, players are generally used to it. Scotland’s cold, wet, and windy, sometimes even in summer, and this can all change how matches play out.
Like any other football league, how a team has been playing recently is very important.
In Scotland’s smaller league system, teams face each other a little more often, so recent results, both in terms of last fixtures and previous head to head meetings, can tell you a lot. With this, it's important for you to be as up to date as the best betting sites with information, and recent records.
Finally, don't forget to check for things like injuries or changes in the line up. A missing key player or someone coming back can make a big difference in any football league. As you move down the footballing pyramid, injuries can often take their toll more than at the top, with smaller squads, and replacements of a lower quality the norm for many.
Scottish Lower League Betting Tips
Don’t forget the lower leagues when you are looking at betting on Scottish football.
The Championship, League One, and League Two have smaller teams involved that might not get much attention but these leagues can offer good opportunities for punters, especially if you become an expert in one particular league.
Alongside the league action, there's also regular cup games, which add a whole new layer to Scottish football betting.
This can also be a minefield though, as per other leagues in Europe, changed teams, resting key players and how seriously these competitions are being taken by some are all additional questions that should be in your thought process before placing your bets.
