Kai Watson's Scottish Football Tips
Kai is back with his free tips for Saturday's Scottish Cup Final between Aberdeen and Celtic and Monday's Scottish Premiership Play-Off clash between Ross County and Livingston.
Scottish Cup Final - Saturday, May 24th
Aberdeen v Celtic
Celtic are the heavy favourites going into the Scottish Cup Final and rightly so. They eased their way into the final with a 5-0 victory over St. Johnstone when Aberdeen stumbled over the line in a 2-1 extra-time win against Hearts (who played with ten men for the whole second half and ended the game with nine men).
It took the Dons until Hearts were down to nine men to get the eventual winner in the 118th minute, a very unconvincing performance, as most of theirs has been in recent months. If it wasnโt for Aberdeenโs incredible start to the season, when they looked like they could challenge for second, they would have finished in the bottom half.
They won 11 of their first 12 games and drew the other against Celtic, this run included beating Rangers at Pittodrie. After that though, they didnโt win for 14 games and had a massive reality check. Since getting the victory to break that streak against Dundee, the results have been better but Jimmy Thelinโs side still havenโt been overly convincing with their performances.
In the split they also only won one game and lost four, getting hammered by both Rangers and Celtic, the latter being at home and a truly dreadful performance. That wonโt have given the fans much confidence stepping into this one. They actually played pretty well in the first half and looked set to go in level at 1-1 after Kevin Nisbet cancelled out a Maik Nawrocki goal in the 42nd minute.
However, they couldnโt hold on until the break and Yang put Celtic in front in first half injury time, an awful time to concede. Then they came out for the second half and crumbled, goals in the 48th and 54th minute put Celtic 4-1 up and finished the game off. Aberdeen didnโt look threatening or capable of causing Celtic problems after that then an injury time goal from Adam Idah sealed the 5-1 victory.
Celtic have been relentless for the entire season and despite having nothing to play for in the split fixtures, still won three of five, drawing the other two. The draw on the last day wonโt have slowed their momentum, not only because it was trophy day but it was also a historic moment for James Forrest. The 33-year-old came off the bench to score a 94th minute equalisier but thatโs not why the goal was so important and memorable. That goal signified the 16th consecutive season that the winger has scored in for Celtic, every single season of his professional career!
It was also a historic day for him as he became the clubs most decorated player with 26 honours and heโll be hoping to make it 27 on Saturday.
Having a look at domestic form, Celtic only lost four games the entire season and went on to win 29, racking up a total of 92 points. While thatโs impressive, for me, the most impressive thing from their season is that they have scored 112 times whilst only conceding 26, a remarkable goal difference of +86! Rangers were second in both categories, conceding 15 more goals and scoring 32 less, if the 17 point gap didnโt show their dominance, then the goal difference definitely does.
Only the bottom five clubs conceded more than Aberdeen and they havenโt been exactly free scoring. Celtic may be missing Hatate and Jota but they have more than enough quality to come in and replace them.
Given form and previous results, I just donโt see how Aberdeen stand a chance in this one. Celtic have the chance to pull away in their trophy count from Rangers and I think theyโll do everything in their power to make it happen.
Fairytales can happen, like Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup, however, I just canโt see a reality in which Aberdeen win on Saturday.
For me, itโs going to be an incredibly comfortable day at the office for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers who should secure another treble.
Scottish Premiership Play-Off Final (2nd leg) - Monday, May 26th
Ross County v Livingston
Having watched the first leg, where I predicted a Ross County win, I was disappointed by Don Cowieโs side. They didnโt play like a club a league above who were fighting for their future. Instead, Livingston found it much easier to assert themselves on the game.
Livingston setup in their usual disciplined style defensively but looked really dangerous going forward. They showed some really nice combinations in forward areas and will be disappointed not to have walked away with a lead going into the second leg.
Ross Countyโs back three really struggled to cope with David Martindaleโs side when they were piling forward and I think the same thing will happen in the second leg. All County really offered going forward were either long balls up to the strikers or hoping the wing backs could get to the line and throw crosses into the box.
For the most part, Livi defended their attacks really well, that was until a moment of madness from Danny Wilson. Some will say that Jordan White went down too easily but there was no reason for Wilson to have that much of a grip on his top, he has to take the blame for this one.
In the Championship thereโs a chance you get away with those ones but when VAR is involved, that wasnโt going to happen.
Livingston have been great defensively this season and with Ross Countyโs lack of ideas and imagination in the final third I donโt see them conceding many in this one. County have also been poor defensively whereas Livi looked dangerous almost every time they went forward.
At best, given the first leg performance, Ross County will probably look to take this one to extra time but I think Livingston will come out and be positive from the get go. They looked much more threatening in attacking areas and even though itโs in Dingwall, the lack of imagination in Don Cowieโs side, I think, will be their downfall and, ultimately, what will take them down to the Championship next season.
Scottish Football Tips - Weekly Predictions from Freebets
Scottish football is a world full of tradition and surprises, making it an excellent focus for fans and anyone interested in betting.
Whether you follow big clubs like Celtic and Rangers as fans or are new to the Scottish leagues, having some helpful betting tips can make things more enjoyable and interesting. We may even improve your betting choices from time to time!
SPFL Betting Tips
Start by getting to know the basics. The Scottish Premiership, the top league, is often led by Celtic and Rangers. Usually too strong for the rest, but other clubs like Hearts, Hibernian, and others, can pull off unexpected wins, shocking the big two.
One point to remember is that the Scottish weather can quietly affect games a little more than in other parts of the UK, though of course, players are generally used to it. Scotlandโs cold, wet, and windy, sometimes even in summer, and this can all change how matches play out.
Like any other football league, how a team has been playing recently is very important.
In Scotlandโs smaller league system, teams face each other a little more often, so recent results, both in terms of last fixtures and previous head to head meetings, can tell you a lot. With this, it's important for you to be as up to date as the best betting sites with information, and recent records.
Finally, don't forget to check for things like injuries or changes in the line up. A missing key player or someone coming back can make a big difference in any football league. As you move down the footballing pyramid, injuries can often take their toll more than at the top, with smaller squads, and replacements of a lower quality the norm for many.
Scottish Lower League Betting Tips
Don't forget the lower leagues when you are looking at betting on Scottish football.
The Championship, League One, and League Two have smaller teams involved that might not get much attention. Still, these leagues can offer good opportunities for punters, especially if you become an expert in one particular league.
Alongside the league action, there are regular cup games, which add a new layer to Scottish football betting.
This can also be a minefield, though, as per other European leagues, changed teams, resting key players and how seriously these competitions are being taken by some are all additional questions that should be in your thought process before placing your bets.
