Our resident tennis expert, Ben Smith, brings you the latest free tennis tips and tennis predictions for the French Open.
French Open - Men's Singles
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz hold all four Grand Slam titles between them, and it is difficult to envisage that changing by the time the French Open comes to a close on June 8th.
Sinner is the world number one ahead of Alcaraz, though it's the Spaniard who currently leads the Race to Turin. The fact that Sinner sits second in that race despite having played just two events highlights the level of dominance he and his main rival are exerting over the men's game.
Alcaraz came out on top when the pair met in the final of the Italian Open last week, making it four consecutive victories over Sinner. Unsurprisingly, there has been support in the market for the reigning Roland Garros champion, as he looks to defend the title in Paris just as he did at Wimbledon last year.
Men's Singles Winner: Jannik Sinner - 2/1 with BoyleSports
It’s extremely easy to make the case for Alcaraz, but in what is looking increasingly like a two-horse race for the Musketeers' Cup, I am happy to get on board with the outsider, especially now that the price is back out to 2/1.
Sinner was 11/4 with some firms before the start of the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome. That was soon chopped into 11/8 as he made his way through the rounds, sweeping aside the crafty Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets before dismantling two-time Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud, who had arrived off the back of a Madrid Open title.
Tommy Paul came out firing in the semi-final, and while Sinner showed some rust in that match and struggled to come to terms with the conditions, it was still impressive how he turned it around after losing the first set 6-1.
The final against Alcaraz was a step too far, although it could have been very different had Sinner not made some uncharacteristic mistakes when he had break points at 6-5 in the opener.
Set two was a breeze for Alcaraz. By then, Sinner, along with the hopeful home crowd, had little left to offer. The Italian landed just 23 per cent of his first serves in those seven games, a stat he surely won’t repeat at the French Open with more match play behind him.
Alcaraz is prone to getting drawn into tough battles against opponents he’s expected to beat comfortably, while Sinner hasn’t lost to anyone other than Alcaraz since August. That is a testament to his remarkable consistency against the rest of the field.
His reliability over those ranked third and below makes this bet particularly appealing, and with a full tournament in Rome under his belt, he should be primed and ready to go at full throttle.
Men's Singles Winner: Tommy Paul (Each-Way) - 125/1 with Coral
As I’m backing a 2/1 winner, I don’t want much further exposure, but a small each-way play on Tommy Paul won’t hurt.
If anything were to happen to either of the top two, the American is the sort of player who could pounce. Having seen some of the names closer to 50/1 on the board, I can’t work out why Paul is listed at triple figures.
Last year was the first time he made it to the third round at the French Open, so his tournament history isn’t inspiring, although he did reach the quarter-finals at the same venue at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Paul has been excellent at the last two renewals of the Italian Open, too, which should correlate nicely given the similarities in conditions. He was a semi-finalist in Rome a year ago, and repeated that feat last week.
He’ll need his ‘A’ game and a lot of luck, but the world number 12 is disrespected at 125/1 in my opinion.
French Open - Women's Singles
Iga Swiatek is seeking a fifth French Open title, her fourth in a row, but after a rotten run of form, she is not the favourite to accomplish that.
The Pole, who has not won a title since Roland Garros a year ago, was beaten in her second match on clay this year by Jelena Ostapenko. She did progress to the semi-finals in Madrid, but was beaten 6-1, 6-1 by Coco Gauff.
An early Italian Open exit followed, confirming Aryna Sabalenka as the woman to beat in Paris. The Belarusian notched the Madrid Open title, a perfect clay-court warm-up, although her record at Roland Garros, where she’s yet to reach the final, remains a concern.
That could leave the door open for challengers like Qinwen Zheng, who defeated Sabalenka in Rome and will fancy her chances in the French capital.
Women's Singles Winner: Coco Gauff - 7/1 with Betway
With question marks over Swiatek’s form and Sabalenka’s French Open back catalogue, I’m drawn to Gauff as a headline selection in the women’s draw.
Gauff will enter the tournament full of belief after appearing in both the Madrid Open and Italian Open finals. She had to settle for the runner-up trophy on each occasion, but she collected some big wins across the two events, including a pair of victories over Mirra Andreeva, plus successes against Swiatek and Zheng.
The 21-year-old was in the Roland Garros final in 2022, the semi-final a year ago, and never worse than the quarter-finals in each of the last four seasons.
She is up to world number two again after starting the clay-court swing well, and that makes a huge difference from a draw perspective.
Women's Singles Winner: Diana Shnaider (Each-Way) - 66/1 with Coral
Diana Shneider was a junior French Open semi-finalist four years ago, and she has proven over the past year that clay is a surface she can be competitive on in the senior game.
She claimed a clay-court title in Budapest last summer, but it was her showings at the recent WTA 1000 events that truly caught the eye.
In Madrid, she pushed Swiatek to three sets in the last 16 before bowing out. In Rome, she reached the quarter-finals, where she was edged out in another tight three-setter by eventual champion Jasmine Paolini. These strong performances suggest she's ready to contend on the big stage.

Tennis Betting Markets
Mastering the different tennis betting markets is key to making the most of your selections. Whether you're backing a tournament favourite or hunting for value in lesser-known markets, knowing where and how to bet gives you a real advantage.
Match Winner
One of the most common strategies is backing the player you think will win a particular match. It's perfect for newcomers and accumulator punters, offering a straightforward way to build your tennis betting strategy.
Correct Score
Predicting the exact set score is a smart move for bigger odds and potentially higher rewards. Correct score betting is ideal for those who study form trends, head-to-head stats, and past matchups between players.
Handicap Betting
Handicap betting sees one player given a head start or deficit in games to even out the match odds. It's a great market to explore for value beyond backing short-priced favourites.
Set Betting
Set betting lets you predict which player will win a specific set. It's a strong option for punters who enjoy live, in-play betting, especially in matches where momentum shifts are expected.
Total Games
Over/under total games markets see you betting on how many total games there will be in a match.
A smart betting strategy often highlights when a match will likely go long or wrap up quickly based on playing styles, surface preference, and player stamina.
Spotting trends like big servers struggling to break each other or dominant players racing through sets can make this market particularly profitable.
Other Tennis Betting Markets
If you're looking for even more ways to find value, these alternative markets offer extra opportunities:
First Set Winner
Backing the First Set Winner market is spotting players who start fast and seize early momentum in a match.
Some players consistently come flying out of the blocks, putting pressure on their opponents from the very first game.
Identifying these quick starters through recent form, head-to-head records, and playing conditions can lead to banking some early profit.
This market is advantageous when betting on matches where one player is known for strong openings but may not always maintain their level across three or five sets.
Outright & Each-Way Betting
Outright and each-way betting focuses on predicting who will be the tournament winner or reach the final of a tournament. These bets can offer outstanding value, particularly before a tournament starts.
Tie-Break Played
This market is ideal when two big servers clash, making breaks of serve unlikely. Betting on a tie-break being played can add an extra layer of excitement to tight matches.
Most Aces
For matches featuring huge servers, betting on who will hit the most aces can be a strong angle. Look for players with dominant serves and a preference for quicker court surfaces.
