Our resident tennis expert, Ben Smith, has four tennis tips for the ATP Madrid Open.
ATP Madrid Open Tips
The second of three Masters 1000 events on clay before the French Open takes place in Madrid this week, with Andrey Rublev defending his title as the seventh seed.
Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassime were both surprise finalists last year in an event that tends to produce a few shocks. Lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff was runner-up at Park Manzanares in 2023, and it could be worth chancing some big-priced individuals this year too.
Winner
- Winner: Alexander Zverev (Each-Way) (2 places 1/2)
Alexander Zverev has played in more clay-court tournaments than most top players this year, though it was not until his appearance in Munich last week that he found some form.
The German was knocked out in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters by Matteo Berrettini, but a switch to quicker conditions in his native Germany paid dividends as he dropped just one set in five matches.
That should set the world number two up perfectly for a deep run in the Spanish capital as he looks to peak just in time for Roland Garros. Zverev’s Madrid record is exemplary - he has won twice in three visits to the final.
- Winner: Taylor Fritz (Each-Way) (2 places 1/2)
The altitude of the Madrid Open courts suits the big servers more so than most clay competitions. One player who has been vocal about how the conditions benefit him is Taylor Fritz, who reached the semi-finals a year ago.
Fritz had made the final in Munich before his strong showing in Spain, and is far too dangerous on quicker surfaces to be priced as high as he is for the title.
"It bounces very high here, so it's great for my forehand," said Fritz a year ago. He may have to beat Casper Ruud to make it out of his section, but the Norwegian has had limited success in Madrid compared with other clay-court tournaments.
- Winner: Matteo Berrettini (Each-Way) (2 places 1/2)
Berrettini has only played in the main draw in Madrid once, and he went all the way to the final, where he was defeated by Zverev.
The Italian was right to withdraw from the Bavarian Championships after struggling with “mental activation” in his Monte Carlo loss to Lorenzo Musetti.
With a fairly kind section in the draw, Berrettini can get back on track at a place where he can leverage his power. He has shown flashes of brilliance over the last month, getting to the quarter-finals in Miami before kickstarting his clay season with a superb win over Zverev.
- Winner: Felix Auger-Aliassime (Each-Way) (2 places 1/2)
There was an element of fortune surrounding Auger-Aliassime’s passage to last year’s final in Madrid. Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal and Jiri Lehecka’s semi-final retirement meant that the Canadian only played six games between his round four success and the start of the final.
Still, the victory over Ruud in the last 16 was completely legitimate, and he may be able to at least outrun his odds. Auger-Aliassime has beaten Daniil Medvedev, his projected third-round opponent, twice in a row, including once on clay.
In-form Holger Rune could then await in round four, but that should not put us off at the quoted price.

Tennis Betting Tips
Tennis takes place all year round, with weekly action from the tour, meaning you can bet on this sport without relying on anything else to bridge the gaps.
But, of course, interest grows when the big events come around, and this is where we want to excel. The four majors, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, will be covered by us in full, with match tips, previews and betting predictions for the finals, and outright antepost tips, to ensure every angle is covered.
Tennis Antepost Tournament Previews & Predictions
When the big tournaments arrive, the antepost markets will grow, giving those looking to place a wager more options.
Our tennis antepost predictions will dive into those markets, we don’t just want to tell you the winner, we want to find value elsewhere. This means we look at markets such as to reach a stage in the tournament or to win a quarter of the draw, all ways in which we try to bring additional value to the biggest events.
Tennis Acca Betting Tips
Of course, with short odds on offer for many tennis matches, the sport is ideal for those trying to find acca betting tips. Here, we will take a look at the list of games taking place and find the best bets of the day, putting them together in an acca so you can keep ahead of the action.
Singles are sometimes not worthwhile on tennis, due to the odds, but accas are a great way to bypass that, and still get a good return if you manage to land a winning bet.
