It’s fair to say that the English sides cruised into the Champions League knockout stages, losing only twice out of a combined 25 games.

Many top pundits are suggesting that the Premier League has caught up with the likes of La Liga and Bundesliga sides, with all five virtually now through.

Only Manchester United and Liverpool still have work to do in the next stages, simply having to avoid defeat.

Which begs the question, can an English side win the world’s most prestigious trophy?

We rate each club’s chance of progression…

Tiemoue Bakayoko Chelsea betting

Chelsea are yet to secure top spot in Group C, with Roma sitting just two points behind them and their final game against Atletico Madrid will be a tricky one.

The Blues are 25/1 in the Champions League winner odds, and should they finish second they could easily be dealt a draw with PSG or Barcelona in the next round.

Chelsea are at home however and a draw should just about see them through as group winners where the best possible draw would see them face Basel, while the worst would be Read Madrid.

It’s going to be difficult for them to get past the Round of 16 you feel this year, but Conte has won it as a player, can he a manager?

Our Prediction: Round of 16

Liverpool have yet to qualify following their disastrous collapse against Sevilla but sit top of the group and require only a draw against Spartak Moscow to make it through.

The Sevilla draw could prove costly for Liverpool with the Spanish only facing Maribor in the final game, but you’d expect the Reds to beat Spartak at Anfield and seal that top spot.

The club are priced at 25/1 to win the competition as Klopp’s men have a half and half chance of receiving a horrible draw in the next round.

They’ll be wanting to avoid Real Madrid Bayern Munich and Juventus who are all likely to enter the Round of 16 as second place finishers, while Basel, Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk would be favoured.

Either way, away goals could prove a real problem for Liverpool with the way they’re conceding and we don’t see them doing anything but scrape through to the Quarter Final at best.

Our Prediction: Round of 16

Manchester City

Manchester City have now won 17 games in a row in all competitions and don’t really look like slowing down.

Raheem Sterling kept their 100% record in the Champions League going late in the last game and the club are already qualified as group winners.

City are second favourite to win the Champions League and it’s no real surprise. Guardiola has them playing frightening attacking football and you’d expect them to score anywhere.

A Round of 16 draw could see them tie Real Madrid, which would be great to see Pep go back there, while the easiest tie would likely be Basel.

At this point of the season you’d expect City to hold their own against anyone as treble winners seems a very realistic possibility.

Our Prediction: Finalists

Manchester United

Mourinho Manchester United Betting

Jose Mourinho knows how to win the Champions League. He also knows how to keep the door shut against the world’s elite. That’ll hold United in good stead in their quest to win a second European trophy in as many years.

Man United are at 14/1 to win the Champions League, despite having not even qualifying for the knockouts yet. It’d take a miracle for them not to however. The club just need to avoid defeat against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford and it’s highly unlikely Basel will overtake them as group leaders.

With Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back, United will fancy going far and Sevilla, Porto or Shakhtar would be the most fanciable opposition in the Round of 16.

Real Madrid, Juventus or Bayern would prove to be huge challenges for United, but their form so far this season and Mourinho’s tactical nouse could see them do well.

Our Prediction: Semi Final

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been a revelation in Group H, a group they were expected to fight for a Europa League place.

The club have won four and drawn one, defeating Real Madrid and doing the double over Dortmund to top the group and give the other English teams a headache by dropping Madrid into second.

Spurs are the most likely out of the English teams to receive a decent draw, with Basel, Shakhtar, Porto or Sevilla all winnable for them. The only teams to avoid would be Bayern or Juve.

That puts them at 16/1 to win the tournament, ahead of Juventus, and the club will be a match for anyone in the next round.

They’ve proved themselves this season by beating the big boys and we can see them continuing that run.
Our Prediction: Semi Final
