Partick vs St Mirren Tips: Premiership Playoff First Leg with Kai Watson

Before the final day of the Scottish Premiership season, St. Mirren already knew they were destined to finish 11th and Partick knew that’s who their opponents would be in the final.
Three defeats at the beginning of the split sealed St. Mirren’s fate as they lost to Livingston, Dundee and Kilmarnock with the latter being a 3-0 hammering and a hammer blow to their chances.
They did beat Aberdeen 2-0 on the second last matchday but it was too little too late as Killie won their last four and ended up six points clear in tenth.
It didn’t seem like their season would end like that after they beat Stephen Robinson on his return to Paisley and performed well in a 1-0 defeat at Celtic Park, before an incredible second half at Hampden which was undone by the extra-time madness.
Partick vs St Mirren Tips
A disappointing end but they have still won a trophy this season and could remain in the Premiership, would that be counted as a success?
Partick had an excellent season and I don’t think many would have had them finishing second at the beginning of the season. It was a close race for most of the season but four draws in their last five allowed St. Johnstone to pull away in the end.
They got through a tough tie in the Semi-Final against Dunfermline thanks to a 2-1 comeback win in the second leg.
They have plenty of quality and experience in attacking areas whilst being good defensively and well organised, this will be a tough tie.
Tip 1: Double Chance - Partick or draw - 4/9 - bet365
I don’t think that there’s much between the two sides but the big thing for me is that Partick are strong defensively and St. Mirren aren’t. Not only that but Partick are strong going forward and St. Mirren have struggled for goals all season, only scoring 30 goals in 38 matches, ten less than the next lowest!
Partick also have the best home record in the Championship, remaining unbeaten over the entire season and St. Mirren lost 11 of 17 away games this season, only winning two.
Tip 2: Partick to score in the first half - Yes - 11/10 - bet365
I think Mark Wilson will have his team right up for this one and the fans will be doing their best to push them on. Their unbeaten home record and the fact they haven’t lost since the 8th March (which was to St. Mirren) means they will definitely fancy their chances.
They will put pressure on St. Mirren immediately and with their lack of confidence, I wouldn’t be so sure that they could stop the home side getting a quick fire goal, especially given their both defensive record.
A quick goal would settle the nerves which will be exactly what Wilson wants for his players and the fans. They will be right up for it and I can see St. Mirren really struggling on Thursday evening.
Tip 3: Alex Samuel Anytime Goalscorer - bet365 - 7/4
Alex Samuel’s goals have been so crucial for Partick this season, he scored a late winner against Morton, the opener against Ross County, the only goals in the league Dunfermline and, of course, the winner in the last round.
He’s a nuisance, he puts himself about and seems to have boundless energy. He might not be the most clinical but he’ll get chances which is hard to teach strikers.
