AFC Wimbledon v Morecambe Match Preview
AFC Wimbledon have scored three or more goals in three of their four home league games, winning each of those encounters.
The Dons have a great roster of strikers, with the option for Johnnie Jackson to pair selfless target man Omar Bugiel with persistent poacher Matty Stevens, which worked a treat in the 4-0 victory over Morecambe in their last Plough Lane outing.
Conversely, Jackson could also pair Joe Pigott with Josh Kelly: there’s real potential in that partnership, too, with the former’s neat link-up play and the latter’s nifty movement.
Bugiel has been the most underrated striker in League Two for three years, Stevens top-scored for title-winners Forest Green in 2021-22, Pigott scored 20 goals for the Wombles in 2020-21, and Kelly was a high-end National League performer poached for a fee.
So, to have all of them in one squad - each bringing different qualities - carries strong Yorke, Cole, Sheringham and Solskjaer vibes.
As such, what Wimbledon have up top is very different to what Morecambe have been able to afford under the uncertain Jason Whittingham ownership regime – the likes of Lee Angol, Jordan Slew and Marcus Dackers could have been playing in the National League North but for the Shrimps’ predicament.
Considering their challenges, Morecambe have been surprisingly competitive performance wise – but they have to be at full pelt to get anything from each game.
As such, the visitors could struggle to handle the quality and depth possessed by their hosts.
