Leeds v Burnley Match Preview
Despite losing star men in Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter, Leeds are arguably better than they were last season.
As opposed to relying on individual brilliance to create chances, often from Summerville, they’re more inventive as a collective, with Mateo Joseph and Brendan Aaronson’s powerful running, and the wide craft of Willy Gnonto and Manor Soloman.
They’ve also got full-backs in Jayden Bogle and Junior Firpo who are dovetailing with their corresponding wide men, sometimes underlapping them to pose the kind of alternative threat Daniel Farke’s side didn’t always have in 2023-24.
There is a defensive cost to that, which is that Leeds do tend to concede big chances and were fortunate not to concede in victory over Hull just before the international weekend, but they also created enough to score more than twice.
As such, for those reluctant to back Leeds at a price as short as 4/7 against a fellow promotion favourite, the Both Teams To Score option might appeal at 4/5, with either team having found the net in three of their four league games so far this season.
If anything, the way the hosts play, with full-backs so high, could feed into the hands of the visitors, who like to open opponents up by playing long passes down the sides, which brought them success in 4-1 and 5-0 victories over Luton and Cardiff.
