Shaun Maloney

Shaun Maloney has emerged as an early frontrunner for the Dundee FC manager role.

The 42-year-old, currently out of work after a stint with Wigan Athletic, previously managed Hibernian and was part of Belgium’s national team coaching staff.

Though he has no direct ties to Dundee, he was reportedly considered for the role in 2022 by technical director Gordon Strachan.

His blend of experience and fresh ideas has made him a favourite with bookmakers and journalists to succeed Tony Docherty at Dens Park.

John Kennedy

Kennedy has quickly emerged as an early frontrunner for the Dundee FC managerial vacancy.

Currently assistant manager at Celtic, the 40-year-old has long been regarded as one of Scottish football’s brightest coaching minds and has been linked with several managerial roles in recent years.

While Kennedy has no direct ties to Dundee, his reputation for tactical acumen and player development has reportedly impressed key figures at the club.

His experience at the highest level with Celtic and a growing desire to step into a lead role will make him an attractive candidate for the Dens Park board.

Callum Davidson

Callum Davidson, 44, is a strong contender for the Dundee job thanks to his impressive track record, including a historic Scottish and League Cup double with St. Johnstone in 2021.

He turned down the Dens Park role after talks in May 2023, but with the position now open again and Davidson currently unattached, he’s back in the frame.

Despite no direct ties to Dundee, his proven ability to exceed expectations in the Premiership makes him a realistic option.

Darren O'Dea

A former Celtic and Republic of Ireland defender, O'Dea is currently part of Celtic's academy coaching setup, where he has earned praise for his leadership and development work with young players.

Although he lacks senior managerial experience, O'Dea's reputation as an up-and-coming coach and strong connections within Scottish football make him a credible option.

With Dundee reportedly open to fresh ideas and long-term planning, O'Dea's coaching pedigree and potential to grow into the role could appeal to the Dens Park board as they look for a successor to Tony Docherty.

Robbie Neilson

Neilson is a proven manager in Scottish football and is once again linked with the Dundee job.

He guided Hearts to two promotions and a third-place Premiership finish, and also enjoyed a successful stint at Dundee United.

Neilson was considered for the Dens Park role in 2023 and, with his recent exit from Tampa Bay Rowdies, is now available.

Despite his ties to United rather than Dundee, his top-flight experience and winning record make him a serious candidate.

If Dundee want a manager with a proven Premiership track record, Neilson will be high on their list.
