Preston Next Manager Contenders
Here is a look at the current names leading the betting list to be the next Preston manager.
Scott Lindsey
A coach cutting his teeth in the lower leagues, it’s no surprise to see Lindsey in the running for the Preston job, and if he doesn’t get this, I expect him to be in the running for most jobs in the Championship, or at the top end of League One.
Playoff final winners at Wembley last season, Lindsey got Crawley promoted from League Two into League One, with a budget smaller than most around him.
A bigger job looks likely to go his way at some point, though if it’s Preston, it’s probably a little earlier than most expected.
Anthony Barry
A left-field appointment this would be, but potentially very shrewd, if Preston were to bring Anthony Barry to Deepdale.
Never a manager himself before, but looking to get into that position, he’s been assistant at many clubs, and even at international level recently.
Working at Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Wigan within club football, plus Portugal, Belgium and Republic of Ireland internationally, Barry has been surrounded by top coaches and players for most of his career.
Paul Heckingbottom
Of the names towards the head of the betting, Paul Heckingbottom is the one that brings Championship experience, and even promotion to the Premier League on his CV.
Starting off his career, he took Barnsley from League One up into the Championship, and had them going well before departing for Leeds, in a move that didn’t work out too good.
But more recently, he managed Sheffield United, taking them to the playoffs with defeat firstly, before backing that up with promotion back to the Premier League under him during the 2022/23 season.
