Stoke v Norwich Match Preview
It’s felt as if Norwich have improved in almost every game this season.
The 2-0 opening day loss at Oxford can be forgiven, under the cloud of key and acrimonious key departures, but subsequent 2-2 and 1-1 home draws with Blackburn and Sheffield United respectively suggested steady progress, since which the Canaries have won four league games in six, scoring a whopping 13 goals.
Full-backs Kellen Fisher inverts into midfield to create a box shape, pairing with Kenny McLean at the base to allow Marcelino Nunez to support Ben Slimane in a more advanced role.
The plan is to shift the initial build-up play toward the right-hand side, but then release left-sider Borja Sainz in the latter stages of moves to link up with selfless front-man Josh Sargent – between them, they do a lot of damage.
Already, you can see Johannes Hoff Thorup’s ideas stamped on this Yellows side, who now have a real identity: something they’d missed in previous campaigns.
As such, Norwich look underrated for the trip to a Stoke side who look set for a season of chronic inconsistency.
