Weekend Boxing Betting Tips
Robeisy Ramirez to beat Rafael Espinoza
In a night of rematches in Phoenix, southpaw Robeisy Ramirez looks to reclaim his WBO featherweight title from Rafael Espinoza, having lost a razor-sharp decision a year ago.
Espinoza won the original contest 113-113, 114-112, 115-111 last December, with both men hitting the canvas in what was considered one of the fights of 2023.
If Ramirez stayed on his feet in that original bout then he probably would have shaded the fight and retained his title, but boxing is a sport of fine and dramatic margins, and with the title changing hands we have been on a collision course for a rematch for 12 months.
Ramirez will know that he can hurt the champion and will no doubt place higher importance on turning the screw if he is able to find an opening again this weekend.
They’ve both won once since that meeting which makes improvements hard to gauge, but despite Espinoza’s unbeaten record, we are siding with the talented Cuban to reclaim his gold.
Emanuel Navarrete to beat Oscar Valdez by Decision/Technical Decision
Despite a meatier record than Oscar Valdez, Emanuel Navarrete is a younger, fresher fighter in a division where you can take a lot of punishment.
These two fought last August where Navarrete cruised to a wide points decision, and despite Valdez’s experience in the ring, it’s hard to see how he can navigate revenge in Phoenix.
But with the WBO ordering the fight, the pair meet again, with Navarrete understanding the blue print of how to beat his fellow Mexican.
But the form books over the last 12 months suggest there could be more than meets the eye when the first bell rings.
Since their original meeting, Navarrete is 0-1-1, drawing against Robson Conceicao before the move up to lightweight and loss to Berinchyk; Valdez’s only fight since losing to Navarrete was a win over Liam Wilson.
Still, in boxing you can often have a fighter’s number – we expect Navarrete to repeat the win on the cards.
Richardson Hitchins to beat Liam Paro by Decision/Technical Decision
It’s hard to argue against this Puerto Rico headliner as being the fight of the weekend.
Australian southpaw Liam Paro is 25-0 in the super-lightweight division and will be making the first defence of his IBF title since winning it in the summer against Subriel Matias.
Richardson Hitchins is the tall, rangy, daunting prospect that has been put in front of him as a mandatory defence, putting his 18-0 unblemished record on the line in order to win his maiden world title at the age of 27.
Paro’s resume looks the more impressive, but an under-par Matias in the summer has maybe increased the stock of the Australian a little sharply.
Hitchins is a dangerous fighter and his ceiling probably reaches higher than the champion’s.
