Avalanche vs Mammoth Prediction, Latest Odds & Tips: October 9

The Colorado Avalanche play their second game of the regular season tonight, their home opener with the Utah Mammoth in town.
For the Mammoth, it's their first tilt of the new season, so it'll be interesting to see how they go, especially as the Avs have a win under their belt already, and an impressive one at that.
We've got our Avalanche vs Mammoth prediction below, with three betting tips plus the latest game odds for you from the best betting sites that cover the NHL.
Colorado Avalanche vs Utah Mammoth Prediction
It's a Central Division matchup here, and the Avalanche come into the game on the back of a 4-1 opening night win on the road against the LA Kings.
After the expected rust of the first 10 minutes, I thought the Avs were excellent, and thoroughly deserved their success.
The Mammoth are here to play their first game, and given they're lacking the jump the Avs will have, I think this is going to be a tough one for them.
Avalanche vs Mammoth Tip 1: Avalanche to Win Period 1
Kicking us off, I like the Avs to win the first period here. Every game I've watched so far this season, both teams have struggled to get going, and it's taken them 10 minutes or so to really get going.
I'm expecting that to be the case here for the Mammoth, but I thin the Avs will be much better, with a game under their belts. They don't have the first game sluggishness to get past, and have their home crowd behind them for the first time this season.
Put those two together, I think the Avs will be out of the blocks quick, and take full advantage here.
Avalanche vs Mammoth Tip 2: Mammoth Total Goals Under 2.5
Next up, I'm backing the defensive side of the puck to be strong for the Avs tonight. They limited LA to very little on Tuesday night, the Kings only goal came on the powerplay, and aside from that, there wasn't much for LA to use.
I've already spoke about the expected slow start from Utah, and as soon as you do that in Denver, the Avs will just smoother you and make you pay.
Mackenzie Blackwood is out, so it'll be Scott Wedgewood in goal, but the Avs play very confidently in front of him. Repeat their defensive performance from Tuesday, and I'll be very surprised if the Mammoth score three or more here.
Avalanche vs Mammoth Tip 3: Martin Necas 2+ Goals
Rounding off with a big one, I think we're going to see a big year in Colorado for Martin Necas, and while that's not a bold prediction, what I do think is that he's going to really excel when it comes to goals.
Playing with Artturi Lehkonen and Nathan MacKinnon, he's got the perfect blend of someone working hard for him, and a great passer to feed him the puck. Necas can, and hopefully will, take more shots this year, and become the finisher on this line.
He scored on Tuesday, this top line should cause all sorts or problems for Utah, at a massive 20/1, I think Necas is worth a punt to get on the scoresheet with two or more goals here.
