Partick Thistle vs Dunfermline - Both teams to score
It was a really tight first-leg at East End Park with the only goals coming within a minute of each other. Dunfermline were putting together the better moves and looked dangerous before deservedly taking the lead through Morrison after great work from Todd on the right in the 23rd minute.
Just a minute later, Partick equalised through stand-out midfielder Ben Stanway, some excellent footwork got him one on one with the ‘keeper and it was a composed finish. Neither side really took the game by the scruff of the neck to secure the win.
Partick haven’t lost in nine and haven’t lost in their last five against the Pars (three wins, two draws) and they are unbeaten at home in the league this season. On the other hand, only St. Johnstone have a better away record than Neil Lennon’s side.
This is a really interesting match up and both teams know it will be St. Mirren they face in the final, should be a cracker!
Celtic vs Hearts - Both teams to score
It all comes down to the final day, Hearts not beating Motherwell last weekend and Celtic’s last winner at Fir Park on Wednesday means that a Celtic victory by any margin will secure them the title. What will encourage Derek McInnes is how Celtic have struggled against his team this season.
The first meeting between the sides ended in a 3-1 Hearts victory at Tynecastle then in December they travelled to Celtic Park and came away with a 2-1 victory. The previous fixture was the closest to date and Celtic were in the lead until Trusty’s controversial red card and Braga’s 87th minute equalizer.
This is Hearts biggest game in 40 years, since Albert Kidd destroyed their title hopes on the final day in 1986. Their fans will be looking to avoid that heartache again, especially with them being in the driving seat for so long, this feels like the chance of a lifetime for them but can they take it?
Celtic have all the experience of winning titles and trophies, some under pressure and some, not so much, but that experience could be key. Celtic need the win so, at some point, they will need to be more open and go for victory. This should suit Hearts, given they have the best defence in the league and are always dangerous on the counter.
An absolute behemoth of a tie this one and I don’t foresee a 0-0!
Hibernian vs Motherwell - Over 2.5 goals
Motherwell looked a certainty to finish fourth a couple of months ago, they were even still in the title race in March! A recent drop in form means that Hibs could overtake them on the final day of the season.
Jens Berthel Askou and his team have taken plenty of praise this season and deservedly so but David Gray’s Hibs have gone under the radar and wins in the last two have given them a chance to sneak a European spot. Aside from the first matchup where Motherwell comfortably won 2-0 at Fir Park, eventually against ten men, they have been tight affairs.
At Easter Road in January it ended 1-1 then at Fir Park in March it ended 0-0 with both teams struggling to get the upper hand on the other. Both teams have scored seven goals in their last five matches but something that will be encouraging for Hibs is that Motherwell have conceded twelve in their last five despite having the most clean sheets over the course of the season (17).
Motherwell only need the draw to finish fourth and nothing but a victory will be enough for Hibs so they need to go for it at Easter Road. This should open the game up which is exactly what Motherwell will want given their quick and progressive attacking style. It may start off tense but I expect this game to open up pretty quickly and the atmosphere
Falkirk vs Rangers - Falkirk or Draw
The controversy around Rangers on Wednesday had nothing to do with what was happening on the pitch but what was happening off of it with James Tavernier. Reports of a bust between him and Danny Rohl dominated the headlines even when they suffered their fourth defeat in a row.
Rangers have never gone the full split without winning a match and had never lost more than two matches in the split before this season. They probably went into the last five as most peoples favourite for the title but the capitulation has been embarrassing.
I don’t buy into social media drama but a few of the Rangers current first team players liked James Tavernier’s post which essentially vilified Danny Rohl, will the players give 100% for him on Saturday? I’m doubtful of that.
Falkirk have played well against Rangers in all their match ups apart from the second half the last time at the Falkirk stadium. They have nothing to play for but to send their fans into the summer in an even better mood and I think there’s a chance they sneak a victory here.
Given the aforementioned drama at Rangers, I also think a few youngsters may be thrown into this game which could further Falkirk’s chances.
Livingston vs Kilmarnock - Kilmarnock to win
I’ve been so impressed by Kilmarnock under Neil McCann and they have ended the season incredibly well. They have won the last three whilst scoring nine and only conceding once! Joe Hugill and Findlay Curtis have been in great form and are part of what makes them exciting to watch.
Livingston have nothing to play for but Scott Arfield will demand the players still give 100%, particularly at home in front of their own fans. I don’t see them being able to keep Killie out though and I think they’ll end the season with four wins on the bounce.
