Shanghai Masters Tips, Predictions & Latest Odds

The penultimate Masters 1000 tournament of 2025 gets underway in Shanghai this week. Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn following his triumph in Tokyo, where he played through an injury. Jannik Sinner is still set to play despite having a final to take care of in Beijing before the start of the tournament in Shanghai.
Alcaraz and Sinner have faced off in the final of three Grand Slams on the trot, as well as the championship matches at the last two Masters 1000 events where both were in the draw, underlining their grip on the tour’s biggest stages.
But with the world number one absent and Sinner still having business elsewhere, there are some tempting each-way prices available for those willing to take a chance on an outsider.
Shanghai Masters 2025 Betting Tips
I have a total of four betting tips for the event, spreading money out against the now odds on favourite Jannik Sinner on four players who could do much better than their odds suggest.
Bu Yunchaokete
Quarter two looks the most open of the four, largely down to the struggles of third seed Alexander Zverev. The German exited early at the US Open, lost both of his matches at the Laver Cup, and was well beaten by Daniil Medvedev on Monday.
Doubts also linger over the fitness and preparation of some of the other top contenders in this section. Lorenzo Musetti and Jakub Mensik retired injured from matches this week, while neither Felix Auger-Aliassime nor Jiri Lehecka have played at all during the Asia swing and may be slightly undercooked.
A couple of outsiders may fancy their chances, including home hope Bu Yunchaokete, who in 2024 made back-to-back semi-finals in Hangzhou and Beijing and could gather steam here too if he gets past Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Luciano Darderi, both of whom are at their best on clay.
Arthur Rinderknech
Arthur Rinderknech improved match by match in Beijing after sneaking into the main draw as a lucky loser. He avenged his qualifying defeat by David Goffin before pushing Alex de Minaur to a final-set tie-break in a high-quality affair.
The Frenchman has already beaten Zverev this year and won’t be fazed if they meet in round three.
Sebastian Korda
Quarter three looks the most intriguing, with Novak Djokovic returning to one of his happiest hunting grounds as he bids for a fifth Shanghai crown. Ben Shelton would usually pose a serious threat, but from a betting standpoint, he’s easy to swerve given the shoulder injury he sustained at the US Open, which looked particularly concerning.
There are, however, two players further along a comeback trail that appeal, one of them being Sebastian Korda, who looked closer to his top level in Tokyo before falling to Taylor Fritz in a tight contest.
A semi-finalist here two years ago, the American can continue his upward trend this fortnight.
Matteo Berrettini
We’ll take a similar stance with Matteo Berrettini, who looked every bit the Berrettini of old when sweeping past Jaume Munar last week.
The 2021 Wimbledon finalist was then stopped by Casper Ruud, who has rediscovered some form and also lands in this quarter, but given the Norwegian’s well-documented issues against big hitters in quicker conditions, that defeat doesn’t dampen enthusiasm.
