Joshua vs Franklin Odds and Betting Tips

We are counting down to the return of Anthony Joshua here at freebets.

One of Britain’s most famous and successful sports stars is back in action against Jermaine Franklin on Saturday April 1, attempting to bounce back from back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua is competing in a non-world title fight for the first time since 2015, when he stopped Dillian Whyte in the 7th round with a vicious assault of right hands.

Jermaine Franklin is in fairly uncharted waters.

The American heavyweight has been offered this chance following a disputed loss to another British heavyweight, Dillian Whyte, last November.

A win for Joshua (who is a pre-fight 1/12 FAV with bet365) would see him edge towards a rematch with Whyte, or, finally landing long-awaited fights with Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury.

Joshua vs Franklin Betting Markets

There are a number of betting markets available for the Joshua vs Franklin fight on Saturday April 1, 2023.

Whether you want to pick an outright winner, the method of victory or what round the fight will end, various bookmakers will enable you to make these wagers.

A couple of examples are listed below:

Method of Victory? i.e “To win by KO/Decision”

How do you think the fight will end, specifically? A Method of Victory bet allows the customer to predict which fighter will win the fight and how.

For example, if you think Joshua’s power will be too much for Franklin, then backing Anthony Joshua to win by KO/TKO (currently priced at 1/4 with Paddy Power) would be your best bet.

If you think that Franklin’s technical ability is underrated and he can win a fight the scorecards then you might want to place a wager on Jermaine Franklin to win via Decision or Technical Decision (currently priced at 18/1 with Paddy Power).

Will The Fight Go the Distance? Yes / No odds

The Will The Fight Go the Distance market is simply backing or laying the knockout.

Naturally, heavyweight contests will see a higher percentage of knockouts than the lower weight classes, so odds on this particular fight to go the distance are likely to be quite high.

When betting on this market make sure you note how many rounds the fight is scheduled for – in this case, twelve.

Betting on Anthony Joshua

Much like the man himself, betting on Anthony Joshua is BIG business.

The British heavyweight has been at the forefront of the division for the last decade and, despite now suffering three career defeats, remains one of the star names and biggest money fights out there.

A sell out crowd will be expected inside London’s O2 Arena on Saturday April 1 and, with big figures tuning into DAZN to watch the Matchroom Boxing card, plenty of those customers will translate into placing a bet on the outcome of the fight.

Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin Fight Overview

Anthony Joshua and Jermaine Franklin will go head-to-head for a scheduled 12 rounds inside London’s O2 Arena with very different remits.

Joshua is looking to regain some momentum in the heavyweight division, whilst his American counterpart will be targetting a smash and grab in the capital.

There will be plenty of nostalgia in London as Joshua heads back to the O2 Arena for the first time in 2,471 days, but will he be able to harness some of the explosive power that saw him rocket to the top of the heavyweight standings that same year?

Jermaine Franklin earned his stripes against Dillian Whyte but will know that the task ahead of him on April 1 is a much bigger one.

Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22KO)

We have now reached a “make or break” point in the career of Anthony Joshua.

The British heavyweight has lost three of his last five matches, and the likelihood of the 33-year-old achieving his career goal of becoming “undisputed” is looking less and less likely.

But all comebacks have to start somewhere, and AJ is planning his to start back where it all began in 2013.

Joshua hasn’t fought inside the O2 Arena since June 2016 and is taking part in his first non-world title fight since 2015 – perhaps stoking an old fire in the Watford fighter is just the tonic that is needed.

His last two fights ended in defeat against Oleksandr Usyk but there were obvious improvements from AJ in the second fight.

He still claims to be a relative novice in the sport and has armed himself with a new trainer, Derrick James, for the 28th fight of his pro career.

Joshua claimed in the opening press conference for this fight that “money, money, money” was his main motivation now, but Joshua has had a long taste of success in the heavyweight division and he’ll certainly fancy another climb up the ladder.

Jermaine Franklin (21-1, 14KO)

Jermaine Franklin has won the boxing lottery.

The Michigan fighter was a fairly unknown contender before being plucked out of thin air to fight Dillian Whyte last November, and now he’s been gifted another big pay day in the United Kingdom.

Franklin suffered his solitary defeat to Whyte via a Majority Decision on November 26, 2022, fighting well and competitively throughout the twelve-round contest.

At 6′2″ Franklin is a fairly small heavyweight, but Joshua hasn’t always found shorter guys particularly easy.

His knockout record is pretty average for a heavyweight – 14 stoppages in 21 wins – but the “898 Assassin” has won just one of his last six fights by KO.
