Kyren Wilson to reach the Final
World champion Kyren Wilson hasn’t exactly kicked on since his Crucible win earlier in 2024, but that winning muscle memory is like gold dust in snooker. And despite not playing his best stuff, Wilson underlined this by picking up the Xi’an Grand Prix, beating Judd Trump in the final.
Wilson finds himself at the bottom of the draw in Belfast and avoiding the likes of Trump, O’Sullivan, Murphy, Higgins and Selby until the final – which really opens up his price of 9/2 to win five matches and reach the final.
Judd Trump to win his Quarter
Trump’s quarter is competitive, sure, but 6/5 for the “Ace in the Pack” to win four matches in Belfast looks like a good pick.
Higgins, Murphy or Stuart Bingham could provide a couple of speed bumps, but Trump’s record in Belfast is rid-icu-lous, and he’s hard to look past as a semi-finalist at least.
Forecast the Finalists – Judd Trump vs Neil Robertson
We’re going with form players and ranking titlists from this season in the final forecast.
Trump will have his hurdles in the top half of the draw, but Robertson’s biggest threats are probably two players that haven’t exactly flown out of the traps in the 2024-25 season – Mark Allen and Jack Lisowski.
16/1 is of course a punt, but there won’t be too many surprised faces if this pair reach the final two.
2024 Northern Ireland Open Snooker Favourites
Judd Trump - 3/1 with bet365
With two wins in seven tournaments and another runner-up finish, Judd Trump is still the form guy on the World Snooker Tour and well deserving of his number one spot in the world.
The top seed in Belfast is defending his title from 2023 where he beat Chris Wakelin 9-3 and sees Ishpreet Singh Chadha in the opposite corner to him in the opening fixture of his defence.
Old foes John Higgins and Shaun Murphy make up a competitive quarter for the “Ace of the Pack”, but the confidence that the 35-year-old is showing on the baize will make him a favourite in every match he starts.
Judd Trump followed Ronnie O’Sullivan and Higgins back in September by recording his 1,000th century break on the tour, emphasising his incredible scoring power and ability to win a frame in a single visit.
Trump has won the title on four of his last six visits to the Northern Ireland Open and 3/1 says he makes it five in seven...
Ronnie O’Sullivan - 5/1 with bet365
After returning to close to his best over the 2023-24 season, Ronnie O’Sullivan is back to his patchy and selective form this time around, failing to make a final so far this year and withdrawing from the British Open and Wuhan Open.
That doesn’t, of course, detract from his threat in these one-off ranking tournaments, but to win six matches over the week the “Rocket” will prefer to be playing with a little more consistency and rhythm.
He’s in the same half of the draw as tournament FAV Judd Trump and is on a collision course with tough-cookie Mark Selby in the quarter-finals, but will no doubt be fuelled by never winning this tournament in seven attempts despite three runner-up finishes.
Mark Selby - 6/1 with bet365
Mark Selby’s recent win at the British Open was a dominant return to form that saw him sweep John Higgins aside 10-5 in impressive fashion.
It had been two years since the “Jester from Leicester” had bagged a ranking title, but now that he’s back in the winners circle he will once again be considered a big threat in this tournaments.
Louis Heathcote is a potential banana-skin in the opening round for the four-time world champion, but once he gets his feet wet in Belfast his 6/1 price for the title will start to make sense.
Neil Robertson - 8/1 with bet365
Speaking of falling out of the winners circle, it was a long two seasons for Neil Robertson before this one, where he reached just four semi-finals amongst a heap of first and second rounds exits.
These heartbreaks were all but a distant memory when he bagged the English Open last month, and now the Australian is well and truly on the comeback charge looking to improve on his underwhelming world ranking of 16.
The “Thunder from Down Under” is of course a better player than the 16th best in the world but he will have to prove that over the next few months and use the momentum of a good start to the season. 8/1 is a good offering if he can continue to put all parts of his game on the baize together.
