2024 Scottish Open Snooker Tips, Preview & Odds
The Scottish Open kicks off in Edinburgh as Gary Wilson attempts to make it a hat-trick of titles

It’s ranking event and Home Nations Series time on the baize this week as we head north of the border to Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Scottish Open takes place inside the Meadowbank Sports Centre as the top players in the game return to basics after the madness of the weekend’s Snooker Shootout.
And the field will look a little different this week…
Former world champions Judd Trump and Mark Williams have both announced their withdrawals from this tournament, opening the door for deep runs from some of the less polished cue-ists on the tour.
Gary Wilson has won the last two Scottish Opens – two of his three career ranking titles – and is 28/1 with tournament sponsors BetVictor to make it an unprecedented hat-trick.
Let’s take a closer look at the event that runs from Monday 9th December until Sunday 15th December, plus our best snooker betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
2024 Scottish Open Snooker – Competition Format
The Stephen Hendry Trophy is up for grabs in Scotland this week with 64 players making it through qualifying or via seeding.
Reigning champion Gary Wilson leads the way at the top of the draw, with Kyren Wilson (2) and Mark Allen (4) the other big-hitters on show in Edinburgh.
Ronnie O’Sullivan is still without a ranking title this season following on from his mesmeric 2023-24 season, and without a Scottish Open title since 2000 will open his campaign against Xing Zihao.
The winner bags a tasty £100,000 of the prize pot.

2024 Scottish Open Snooker - The Favourites
Check out the favourites to lift the trophy in Edinburgh this week.
Ronnie O’Sullivan - 5/1 to win the Scottish Open
With no Judd Trump in the pack, Ronnie O’Sullivan starts out in front as the favourite in Edinburgh, looking to land his first Scottish Open crown in 24 years.
Withdrawals and early-round exit have blighted the “Rocket’s” season so far with a semi-final run at the Xi’an Grand Prix the only dent he has made in a ranking tournament.
He looked rusty at the UK Championship falling in the first round to Barry Hawkins, but will fancy the look of his quarter this week, with John Higgins, Zhang Anda and the aforementioned Hawkins the major threats.
Kyren Wilson - 6/1 to win the Scottish Open
Wilson is the second seed in Scotland and is chasing a third ranking title of a successful season as the reigning world champion.
Wins at the Xi’an Grand Prix and Northern Ireland Open buffered his ranking to number two in the world and the 32-year-old is playing like it.
The quarter-final is the best he has managed previously at the Scottish Open and will have to navigate a tough bottom quarter including players like Ding Junhui, Xiao Guodong, Jak Jones and Luca Brecel.
Neil Robertson - 13/2 to win the Scottish Open
Neil Robertson’s return to form is continuing throughout the back end of 2024 and the Australian looks set to climb back into the top 10 in the world in the New Year.
An English Open title, a quarter-final run at the Northern Ireland Open and a fun few wins at the Snooker Shootout have seen him make headlines in a few ranking outings, and with a win and semi-final finish in his last four Scottish Opens will fancy his chances in Edinburgh.
He has been paired with Fan Zhengyi in the opener and is on a possible collision course with the man that hasn’t lost a Scottish Open match since 2021 – Gary Wilson.
Winner of the Snooker Shootout – Tom Ford – could well await in the last 32.
Mark Selby - 15/2 to win the Scottish Open
Mark Selby has won it all in the game, including two Scottish Opens in his last five visits.
Despite questions surrounding Selby’s intentions to continue playing snooker at the start of the season, the four-time world champion has shown excellent patches of form, and will take heart from a semi-final run at the Snooker Shootout last week in Leicester.
He won the British Open early in the season and with no Trump and a faltering “Rocket”, Selby will see the draw opening up in front of his very eyes.
Selby starts his campaign against Stuart Carrington and will be most concerned about Mark Allen if he is to escape the quarter.
2024 Scottish Open Snooker – Best Tips

Barry Hawkins to win his Quarter
With a final run at the UK Championship and two other quarter-final ranking tournament runs this season, you’d do well to find a better dark horse than the “Hawk”.
The ‘nearly man’ of the WST has lost more finals than had hot dinners, but keeps plugging away and impressing season-on-season.
He’s holding his own as the number 12 in the world and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he could navigate his way out of a quarter including an unpredictable O’Sullivan and Higgins.
Mark Allen to reach the Final
It’s been a season of many different ranking title winners and many different runners deep into tournaments.
Allen is yet to build on his 11 career ranking titles this season so, by law of averages, it feels like his turn to get some good fortune in Edinburgh.
His first task is getting past He Guoqiang; Ryan Day or Anthony McGill will follow and then once Allen is up and running he’ll be favoured in most head-to-heads.
