Mike De Decker to beat Dimitri van den Bergh
Mike De Decker is quickly turning into the story of the week in Leicester.
The Belgian has only dropped one set en route to his maiden ranking semi-final, and starts as a slight favourite against his countryman Dimitri van den Bergh after averaging an unbeaten 92 in the quarter-final against James Wade.
Van den Bergh has the pedigree and experience in these major finals, but De Decker is playing with a freedom and rawness this week that can’t be overlooked.
Van den Bergh has the most recent win between the pair at a Players Championship event in the summer, but this format does funny things to players, and De Decker looks to be the man to capitalise on the quirk this week.
Luke Humphries to beat Ryan Joyce 5-3
Ryan Joyce continues to surprise in Leicester, but there is a feeling that his luck will run out when he squares up against the reigning champion, world number one and world champion.
Humphries hasn’t been without fault this week (averaging in the 90s just once in three games) but the deeper the rounds go, the more wiggle room he has to play with in terms of sets.
Joyce’s checkout percentage of 63% saw him over the line against Rob Cross when he only threw two 180s, and a similar percentage will see him run Humphries close.
5-3 feels about right.
