2025 Wuhan Open Snooker Preview, Format & Odds
The World Snooker Tour hosts its third ranking tournament of the 2025-26 season

Weโre back on the WST bandwagon next week!
The 2025 Wuhan Open marks the third staging of this World Snooker Tour ranking event in China.
First introduced to the professional circuit in 2023, the inaugural title was claimed by Judd Trump, who defeated Ali Carter in the final. Then, last year in 2024, Xiao Guodong lifted his first-ever ranking trophy after overcoming compatriot Si Jiahui in a memorable all-Chinese showdown.
Notably, Si compiled the tournamentโs first 147 maximum break during his semi-final win over world number one Trump.
This yearโs edition once again features a flat 128-player draw, comprising 124 tour professionals and four local wildcard entrants. Defending champion Xiao Guodong is seeded first and heads up the top of the draw, while reigning world champion Zhao Xintong takes the second seed at the opposite end.
After romping to the final of the Saudi Arabia Masters โ racking up two 147 maximum breaks in an incredible 6-3 win over Kyren Wilson โ Ronnie OโSullivan has pulled out of the Wuhan event in order to preserve his engine.
Letโs take a closer look at the event that runs from Sunday, August 24th until Saturday, August 30th, plus our best snooker betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
2025 Wuhan Open Snooker โ Competition Format
The tournament is played under a straight knockout format: matches up to the quarter-finals are best of nine frames, semi-finals best of 11, and the two-session final best of 19.
A stellar field has entered, featuring all 16 of the worldโs top-ranked players. Alongside Xiao, Zhao, and Trump, the line-up includes established stars such as John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ding Junhui, Mark Selby, and Neil Robertson.
As one of the curtain-raisers for the new World Snooker Tour season, the event also welcomed several debutants. Among them was 14-year-old Michal Szubarczyk, who lost 5-0 to former world champion Shaun Murphy in qualifying back in June.

2025 Wuhan Open Snooker - The Favourites
Check out the favourites to lift the trophy in Wuhan.
Judd Trump - 7/2 to win the 2025 Wuhan Open
Breaking news: Judd Trump has yet to win a tournament this season.
Okay, heโs only had two opportunities in Shanghai and Saudi Arabia, so there is no need for the โAce in the Packโ to panic just yet.
The world number one won this title in 2023, reached the semi-finals last season and will be tipped by many to go all the way again inside the Optics Valley Gymnasium.
Trump has an annoying habit โ to his rivals โ of hardly ever falling early in tournaments, so donโt expect any upsets when he matches up against Farakh Ajaib in a heldover qualifier.
Zhao Xintong - 4/1 to win the 2025 Wuhan Open
Reigning world and Wuhan champion Zhao Xintong is fast becoming a snooker sensation.
The 28-year-old has a massive season ahead of him after winning the big one in Sheffield, and has already flexed his muscles with an impressive semi-final run in Shanghai.
He plays attacking, exciting snooker without too much concern for who he is pitted against, and is beginning to reap the rewards on the WST.
Iulian Boiko awaits the Chinese talent in the heldover qualifier, before Matthew Stevens in the opening round.
Kyren Wilson - 5/1 to win the 2025 Wuhan Open
Wilson was on the wrong end of another OโSullivan milestone in Saudi Arabia at the weekend, falling 6-3 to the โRocketโ as he bagged two maximum breaks.
But a run to the quarter-final following a win in Shanghai has given Team Wilson a lot of confidence heading east to the Wuhan Open.
The โWarriorโ hasnโt made a mark on this tournament in previous attempts, but with a new winning mentality after a couple of excellent years on tour, the 33-year-old will be actively looking to grow his impressive trophy collection.
Wilson begins his campaign against Irelandโs Aaron Hill, and sits at the bottom end of the top half of the draw, ranked fourth.
Neil Robertson - 6/1 to win the 2025 Wuhan Open
Robertson returned to form last season after a few years in the wilderness and the 43-year-old Australian is getting right back to business at the start of this campaign.
Ronnie OโSullivan was on flames in Saudi Arabia last week, but a 10-9 win for the โThunder from Down Underโ over the G.O.A.T underlined his sticking power in the high-pressured matches, setting him up well for a good run in Wuhan.
Robertson has fallen early in his previous two attempts at Wuhan glory, and wonโt have it easy against Reanne Evans in the first round.
Mark Selby - 7/1 to win the 2025 Wuhan Open
Three titles last season was an impressive return for Selby considering the battles heโs endured on and off the baize over the past few years.
Wins at the Championship League, British and Welsh Opens can hopefully act as a springboard for the โJester from Leicesterโ to kick on this campaign and climb the ranking spots.
Selby has never got further than the first round in Wuhan and to do so this season will have to beat fellow Englishman Michael Holt.
