Celtic v Aberdeen Match Preview
Aberdeen were genuine top-two contenders when they faced Celtic at the end of 2024, but their fortunes have taken a drastic turn since then.
On December 4th, six points separated Brendan Rodgers' reigning champions from Jimmy Thelin's impressive underdogs when they met at Pittodrie, a late goal from Reo Hatate sealed a narrow 1-0 victory for Celtic.
Fast forward less than three months, and the gap has ballooned to 28 points - a margin that could grow to 31 by Tuesday night.
Celtic will be eager to respond after Saturday's 2-1 loss at Hibernian, only their second league defeat in an otherwise dominant season.
Given their midweek efforts in Germany against Bayern Munich in the Champions League play-off round, it was no surprise they looked fatigued at Easter Road.
As for Aberdeen, their season has unravelled dramatically. They started with a blistering 13-game winning streak, briefly reinforcing the belief they could challenge for second place - especially after a 2-1 victory over Rangers.
However, that run flattered them in hindsight, and what followed was a shocking 14-game Premiership winless streak.
They finally ended that slump with a 2-1 win at Dundee 10 days ago and followed it up with a victory over Kilmarnock, giving them at least some momentum heading into Tuesday's clash.
Interestingly, none of Aberdeen's last 11 matches in any competition have seen more than three goals, so a Celtic win coupled with under 3.5 goals looks like a smart play at 6/4 with Betway.
Portuguese star Jota came off the bench at Easter Road in Celtic’s 2-1 defeat to Hibs, registering a couple of efforts, including one on target.
He played a key role in the champions’ much-improved second-half display and will likely return to the starting lineup against Aberdeen.
Jota rejoined Celtic from Rennes last month after initially leaving for Saudi side Al Ittihad in 2023.
Since his return to Glasgow, he has made four league appearances - two starts and two from the bench - scoring twice, and he looks like a solid bet at 9/2 with bet365 to grab the opening goal on Tuesday evening.
