Abu Dhabi Championship 3-Ball Betting Tips - Day One

All eyes in the golfing world will be fixed on the Abu Dhabi Championship this week which heralds the first leg of a thrilling conclusion to the DP World Tour campaign.
Complete with a new format, the event which takes place at Yas Links, has moved from its traditional January slot to November.
There will be 70 players in the field, and Yas Links, which is hosting its third ‘European Tour event’, describes itself as the first true links course in the Middle East.
Sandy hazards are dotted around the course, and water is in play on nine holes, so something to be mindful of.
Earlier this week, I provided a full preview ahead of this tournament, but the focus of this article is to highlight a few 3-ball betting tips from some of the groups in Round 1, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
Abu Dhabi Championship 3-Ball Betting Tips - Day One
Check out my three selections for the opening round at Yas Links on Thursday, which are ideal for a 10/1 golf acca.
Rory McIlroy to beat Thriston Lawrence & Rasmus Hojgaard
Primed to land the prestigious Harry Vardon for the sixth time which would see him match the feats of the great, late Seve Ballesteros, the pressure should be off Rory McIlroy’s shoulders.
With a commanding 1,572.39-point lead over Thriston Lawrence, McIlroy, who came close to adding to his tally in the Majors this season, has generally fared well in this part of the world.
Indeed, McIlroy has won six events in the UAE, so his record is formidable.
Lawrence, whose best finish of late was a T2 at the BMW Championship, will be targeting a strong week. Whereas, Rasmus Hojgaard, who has secured dual membership for the DP World and PGA Tours next season, enjoyed the spoils at the Irish Open back in September.
This should be a fascinating group to watch, but to kick off my 3-ball betting tips, I’m going with McIlroy to pinch things in the opening round.
Min Woo Lee to beat Justin Rose & Niklas Norgaard
Despite just making a handful of appearances on the DP World Tour this term, Justin Rose’s experience counts for a lot.
11 DP World Tour wins bear the hallmarks of a fine player who is 27th in the Race to Dubai rankings, and of his performance metrics, he’s 25th for stroke average which is nothing to scoff at.
However, Niklas Norgaard has been in and around the top 30 over the past month or so and he clinched the British Masters back in September.
When you also factor in Min Woo Lee, who was a runner-up here last year, this group has the ingredients to produce some splendid golf.
Lee has been silky smooth with the putter even though his iron play has been inconsistent.
For my second pick, I’m going with Lee, a former Rolex Series event winner, to finish ahead of Rose and Norgaard in the opening round.
Tommy Fleetwood to beat Shane Lowry & Robert MacIntyre
Another one of the most mesmerising feature groups, this could be a birdie fest.
It has been a stellar year for Olympic silver medallist Tommy Fleetwood, and three of his seven ‘European Tour’ victories have come in the Arabian Peninsula.
His credentials shouldn’t be understated, while Shane Lowry has picked up form at just the right time, chalking up four top-15 finishes in his past four outings on the DP World Tour.
Across his past 12 rounds of golf, there have been three scores of 70+ though which might raise some eyebrows.
Robert MacIntyre, meanwhile, is 11th for stroke average on the DP World Tour, and his Scottish Open triumph was an undoubted highlight of his season.
His scoring recently has been mixed, and I haven’t considered either him or Lowry in the outrights.
To wrap things up, I’m drawn to Fleetwood to prevail in the opening round in this group.
