Birmingham v Wigan Match Preview
There’s been much focus on the quality Birmingham will have with the ball this season, but Keshi Anderson’s opener in the 2-1 victory at Leyton Orient last time out was an example of what they can do without it.
Alfie May’s hassling of the opposition goalkeeper could be crucial to Blues keeping the pressure on opponents this season, depriving them of those five-minute periods to look after the ball and get a bit of oxygen – as well as forcing mistakes, like the one from Zach Hemming that Keshi Anderson pounced on.
In fact, May scored a second at Brisbane Road in similar fashion, so it’ll be a tough balancing act for a side like Wigan, who have built their squad to try and play – go more compact and direct, and they’ll restrict what they can create, but play their natural game and they might get picked off.
Plus, while the Latics have plenty of talent, including a fabulous young goalkeeper in Sam Tickle who may give them a chance if he can be at his best in B9, they began the campaign with successive defeats, before last week’s unconvincing 1-0 win over Crawley.
