Exeter v Birmingham Match Preview
Birmingham could be something of a wounded animal, after Saturday's 3-2 loss at bottom side Shrewsbury.
There may be merit in boss Chris Davies picking an unchanged XI, giving them the motivation to right a wrong, but there may be an even greater feeling that this could be the time to freshen things up.
As such, right-back Taylor Gardner-Hickman, defender Ben Davies, midfielder Marc Leonard, left-sider Ayumu Yokoyama, and forward Alfie May are all likely to start at least one of the next two games – Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Blackpool, if not Tuesday’s jaunt to Exeter.
While Blues have an embarrassment of riches, the same can’t be said for City, who are sitting proudly in midtable.
Gary Caldwell had to field three different players out of position at Wrexham on Saturday, and the result was a 3-0 defeat, as the absence of former blue Ryan Woods, in particular, took its toll.
Meanwhile, Birmingham striker Jay Stansfield returns to the club he cut his cloth at as a youngster, the club he thrived at on loan in 2022-23, and the club where the fans still sing his late father’s name.
