Men’s Olympic Golf 3-Ball Betting Tips - Day One

- Scottie Scheffler to beat Rory McIlroy & Ludvig Aberg
- Xander Schauffele to beat Viktor Hovland & Jon Rahm
- Collin Morikawa to beat Matthieu Pavon & Matt Fitzpatrick
The medal rush will begin in earnest on Thursday morning as the first round of the Olympic men’s golf competition gets underway.
There are so many intriguing angles into this one, and naturally, there are a few feature groups that have been allocated for the first couple of days that have caught our eye.
Home hopeful Victor Perez will hit the first tee shot in the 60-man field, but who will lay down a marker in Round 1?
I have leafed through the groups and divulged some potential winners in my unique Olympic golf 3-ball betting tips for the opening day, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
Men’s Olympic Golf 3-Ball Betting Tips - Day One
Check out my three selections for the opening round of the Men’s Olympic Golf on Thursday, which are ideal for a 10/1 golf acca.
Scottie Scheffler to beat Rory McIlroy & Ludvig Aberg
This will be a novel experience for Scottie Scheffler, who will be making his Olympic debut in the French capital.
In terms of rankings, this is undeniably the most illustrious group of the lot with Scheffler, McIlroy and Aberg occupying three of the top four spots in the world rankings.
Interestingly, McIlroy and Scheffler were in the same group at the US Open earlier in the summer, but Scheffler has been in a league of his own at times.
Six wins and two runner-up finishes underlines his dominance this term, and he’s already been spoken of in the same breath as Tiger Woods for his exploits this season.
McIlroy’s struggles were well documented at Royal Troon where his putter failed him, and in terms of key performance metrics, he ranks 46th for SG: Putting (0.275) so he will need to buck up his ideas.
Aberg appears likely to give Scheffler something to think about. However, to kickstart my OIympic golf 3-ball betting betting tips, I’m siding with Scheffler to take the spoils in the opening round.
Xander Schauffele to beat Viktor Hovland & Jon Rahm
There will be a burden of expectation on Xander Schauffele who is going into the Games as the defending Olympic champion.
Fresh from wrapping up his second Major win in just a matter of months, Schauffele will relish being perhaps the red-hot favourite at Le Golf National, and he’s proved he can handle the pressure cooker atmosphere in the biggest tournaments.
There are no obvious flaws to his game, albeit he would want to tighten up his approaches within 100-125 yards (ranked 164th) this term.
Jon Rahm, meanwhile, picked up his first LIV title last weekend, while Viktor Hovland, who is the reigning FedEx Cup champion, is destined for more success.
This group should ebb and flow, and you won’t want to take your eyes off this one, but Schauffele could prevail in the opening round.
Collin Morikawa to beat Matthieu Pavon & Matt Fitzpatrick
There will be four Americans competing in the men’s Olympic golf competition, and while Scheffler is the ace in the pack, don’t underestimate Collin Morikawa.
The 27-year-old has been on an upward trajectory, and he’s been in and around the top 15 over the past couple of months.
Long off the tee and imperious with his irons, Morikawa could well dampen any French hopes, in this case, Matthieu Pavon, while Matt Fitzpatrick hasn’t had much to shout about recently.
Cast adrift in The Open, Fitzpatrick will be making his Olympic debut, but this could be Morikawa’s day, and to wrap things up, I fancy him to see off his playing partners.
