Next QPR Manager Odds: Julien Stephan 4/6 favourite for Loftus Road job

June 4, 2025 at 12:09 pm GMT+1

Julien Stephan is top of the next QPR manager odds as the club seeks to move on from Marti Cifuentes this summer.

Online betting sites have former Rennes boss Stephan as comfortable favourite to land the job at Loftus Road after Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave at the end of the season.

Free Bets have had a look at the rest of the candidates for the QPR job.

Julien Stephan

Julien Stephan is one of the most tactically astute young managers in French football and would be a major coup for QPR.

Best known for his impressive spell at Rennes - where he won the Coupe de France and guided them to the Champions League - Stephan is tactically flexible, able to implement a high-pressing 4-3-3 or a more compact shape depending on the squad.

He focuses on intelligent positional play, rapid transitions, and building around young talent. His brief time at Strasbourg was more turbulent, but his overall resume suggests a manager capable of working at a high level.

For QPR, who are looking to stabilise and rebuild with a clearer footballing identity, Stรฉphan could inject structure, ambition, and European sophistication.

The main challenge would be convincing him to take on a Championship project - but if the board can sell the long-term vision, Stephan offers a blend of pedigree and modern tactical philosophy.

Johannes Hoff Thorup

Johannes Hoff Thorup has drifted in the odds somewhat having been the frontrunner for this role at one point.

He is believed to have turned the club down - according to reports in Denmark - after being approached for talks, with the club clearly impressed by his first season in English football with Norwich, even if he lost his job before the end of the season.

At just 36, Hoff Thorup already shows the calmness and clarity of someone with a decade more experience. For QPR, he represents a forward-thinking appointment in the mould of Martรญ Cifuentes: someone who can instil a modern philosophy and work within a sustainable, development-focused model.

Given how his reign at Norwich ended it is a little bit of a surprise that he has turned down an immediate return to the Championship, I'm not sure how many chances he will get this summer at this level.

Rasmus Bertelsen

Rasmus Bertelsen is an under-the-radar but highly intriguing option.

As head coach at Randers, heโ€™s been part of one of Denmarkโ€™s most progressive and analytically driven clubs. Bertelsenโ€™s tactical style is pragmatic but layered, with an emphasis on data-led decision-making, fluid formations, and strategic adaptability.

Heโ€™s shown an ability to compete with better-resourced sides in domestic football and has a track record of integrating academy players into first-team structures.

For QPR, who lack resources but want to compete smartly, Bertelsen could be an ideal fit. He represents a coach who wonโ€™t demand a major overhaul but would instead maximise whatโ€™s already in the building.

The move would be a risk - he has no experience in English football and is still relatively unknown outside Denmark - but QPRโ€™s ownership may see this as a shrewd, forward-thinking appointment that mirrors the success other clubs have had with data-savvy continental coaches.

Alessio Lisci

Alessio Lisci is one of the most exciting young tacticians in Europe, having burst onto the scene at Levante during a chaotic period.

Appointed as a 36-year-old in La Liga, he showcased bold tactical ideas, favouring a high-tempo pressing game with vertical passing and positional rotations. Though Levante were relegated, Lisci earned praise for restoring belief and organisation to a fractured squad. His passion and clarity of communication stood out, especially given his youth.

After Levante, Lisci moved to Mirandes who he led to fourth place in the Segunda Division and will compete in the play-offs for a place in La Liga.

For QPR, Lisci would represent a bold, modern appointment - someone with genuine top-flight experience and the hunger to prove himself again.

Heโ€™d likely demand a strong footballing structure around him, but his energy, ideas, and fearlessness could rejuvenate the club. If QPR are ready to take a calculated gamble, Lisci could pay off handsomely.

Tom Cleverley

Tom Cleverley would be the most high-risk, high-upside option of this list - a former Premier League player now beginning his journey in management.

As interim boss at Watford at the end of the 2024/25 season, Cleverley earned praise for restoring some structure and spirit to a dysfunctional squad. Though his experience is extremely limited, heโ€™s known for his professionalism, tactical awareness, and strong communication skills.

QPR would need to weigh potential against track record - Cleverley has clear leadership qualities and could connect well with players, but having lost his job at Watford there are still question marks over his credentials as a manager.

If the club is looking to build something fresh with a strong cultural reset, he could be the kind of appointment that energises fans and players alike. However, he would need an experienced staff around him and full backing through inevitable bumps.

A brave appointment - best suited to a long-term vision rather than short-term results.
