Panathinaikos v Chelsea Match Preview
The Blues got their European campaign off to a dream start with a comfortable 4-2 victory over Gent on Matchweek 1.
Although they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Liverpool last Sunday in the Premier League, Enzo Maresca’s men are firmly in the picture for a top-four finish, albeit it is still early days.
Panathinaikos, meanwhile, warmed up for this clash with a 1-0 win away to OFI Crete in the Greek Super League.
However, after being held to a draw in their opening UEFA Conference League game, Panathinaikos will want to get their first win at home.
But how will things transpire? I’ve scurried over to the markets and plucked out a couple of Chelsea predictions for you to peruse.
Blues to continue to make strides
While Maresca had his fair share of critics before taking charge at Chelsea, he has gone some way to answering.
The defeat to Liverpool was their first blemish in the Premier League since an opening-day defeat to Manchester City, and they have looked good in Europe.
Against Gent, wholesale changes may have been made by Maresca, but Chelsea amassed 20 attempts on goal, controlled possession, and it was a professional display.
A look at the Blues’ fixtures in the UEFA Conference League would seem to suggest there aren’t any obvious banana skins to fret about.
Cole Palmer could well be taken out of the firing line, but Pedro Neto and Joao Felix will be a handful.
Chelsea are unbeaten in their past 12 European games, but it is the first time they will be facing Panathinaikos.
However, I fancy Chelsea to come through and claim a win. For Chelsea to emerge victorious & BTTS, you can see an inviting price of 21/10 plugged at bet365.
Chelsea to stroll over the line
As mentioned, Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League schedule doesn’t look the most daunting, but getting over the line and securing an automatic spot in the Round of 16 will be imperative.
But don’t expect Panathinaikos to just sit back and soak up the pressure against the West London outfit.
It is arguably Chelsea’s biggest test in the group phase, but I think they will pass this assignment with flying colours.
Chelsea should have plenty of touches in and around the box and they won’t have problems carving out chances.
To support my first pick, I’m going with Chelsea to win comfortably and by a margin of three goals. Paddy Power is on hand here with odds of 15/2 advertised.
