Chris Dobey to beat Gerwyn Price
Despite his pedigree in the sport, it’s a bit of a surprise that Gerwyn Price is once again a quarter-finalist at the Ally Pally.
The “Iceman” went life and death with both Joe Cullen and Jonny Clayton in matches that could have fallen either way, and with a barrel load of missed doubles, the Welshman looks very beatable.
Chris Dobey is always there or thereabouts, but after three wins on the PDC Players Championship Tour this season will feel he has that winning edge to take into 2025.
This one could well go the distance, but Price’s missed doubles will surely catch up with him as Dobey romps home.
Callan Rydz vs Michael van Gerwen – Over +18.5 180s
Callan Rydz has been the surprise package of the tournament so far grabbing the two highest averages of the World Championships so far (107 & 105).
The “Riot” was a quarter-finalist back in 2022 but is playing better darts this time around to suggest he could run MVG close.
The Dutchman showed patches of the form that has seen him bag three world titles in the past, but relying on the 180 market between these two looks the most sensible.
At least 19 maximums to be thrown in a match that could easily go nine sets in a thriller.
Stephen Bunting to beat Peter Wright
Nobody – including Peter Wright – seems to understand where “Snakebite” has found this form from.
The Scot has had a horrendous season on the oche, but with wins over Luke Humphries, Jermaine Wattimena and Wesley Plaisier looks to have saved his best until last in 2024.
He’d start favourite against a lot of the field, but Stephen Bunting looks a different animal this year.
The “Bullet” is playing some of his most consistent darts, has the crowd on his side and after winning the Masters at the start of the year, has that muscle memory of getting over the line in a major.
Bunting to end Wright’s fairytale run here.
Luke Littler to win, hit most 180s & highest checkout vs Nathan Aspinall
Littler is growing into this tournament without really hitting his top form.
The teenager has dropped sets in all of his matches so far and had to dig deep against Ryan Joyce in a memorable fourth-round tie.
But as long as he is winning, you expect him to save some of his stardust for the latter stages.
Nathan Aspinall is as gritty as they come on the oche, but after a season blighted by injury may struggle to keep up with the power scoring of Littler deeper into the match.
Expect Aspinall to stick with Littler in the early stages, until the “Nuke” puts on the afterburners.
