Scotland v Portugal Match Preview
Scotland will be hoping for a reversal in fortunes when they host Portugal in the Nations League on Tuesday evening.
Winless after three games, Scotland remain rooted to the bottom of Group A1, but Portugal will be in no mood to show any mercy.
Steve Clarke’s men were ahead against Croatia over the weekend, but they were pegged back before Andrej Kramaric netted the winner 20 minutes from the end for the Croats to secure a 2-1 victory for the hosts.
Portugal, on the other hand, are top the table and have conceded just three goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo was on the scoresheet as he plundered his 133rd goal for his nation against Poland, and even at the grand old age of 39, he’s showing no obvious signs of slowing down.
But how will things pan out at Hampden Park? I’ve shared a couple of Scotland betting tips to put you in the mood for this game.
Portugal to come out on top
Portugal come into this game in fine fettle, having collected maximum points from their three games to date.
Ronaldo proved to be a constant menace against Poland, netting his 906th goal for club and country. While Piotr Zielinski halved the deficit to make things slightly awkward, a late own goal by Jan Bednarek helped the Portuguese over the line.
Scotland, however, will have taken some positives from the defeat to Croatia, and Ben Doak impressed on his debut.
Although he became the youngest player since Willie Johnston in 1965 to start a competitive game for Scotland, Doak wasn’t overawed.
Scotland gave a good account of themselves in their previous outing against Portugal before the game turned on its head, and Ronaldo scored the winner.
I think Portugal should make their class tell again, and to kick off my Scotland betting tips, I’m going with Portugal to win & BTTS. A tasty 21/10 price can be located with William Hill.
Bernardo Silva to put wheels in motion
Portugal have plenty of attacking weapons at their disposal, and they can hurt teams at will.
While he is yet to hit the target for club this term, Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 3-1 win over Poland, and that will have been a confidence booster.
Silva can weave his magic and he has shown over the years to have a sharp eye for goal.
Although the likes of Ronaldo will make their mark later on in this game, I think there is value in Silva opening the scoring.
Should you fancy, I’ve unearthed an intriguing price of 13/1 with Paddy Power for Silva to break the deadlock.
